You had to be born in the 60's to truly enjoy the 80's as a teenager and young adult.

David Broome

And quite annoyingly, the lead singer Morten Harket still looks the same 40 years on!

Chris Horsfield

First band I ever saw live. It was full of teenage girls and I was 15. Wonderful experience! Hammersmith Apollo in 1986.

Andrew Johnson

Nice necklace.

Mark Telford

I’m jealous 🤣 I’d happily take being older now and have gotten to experience all that you did

Nichole Hutchison

I was a teenager in the 80s. We were spoiled for choice when it came to great music 🎶

Karen Campbell

They actually dated for a while, too. The singer and the girl, I mean

I had my first job as a focus puller / clapper loader on an A-Ha music video back in about 1989. I entirely bluffed my way in though, because I'd never done the job before, but my mate was the cinematographer! Had a bit of a mare on set with my first load though, when the 16m film bird-nested and I had to slowly wind it back on the roll in the dark bag. The producer decided to come over to have an introductory chat at that very moment too: it's the only time in my life I've experienced cold sweat flooding from my armpits in abject fear! Got away with it though, because my mate said that in the pub after the production crew was saying how great it was to have a seasoned professional on set! 🤣

I was born in 1976 so I grew up in the 80’s 🥰🇬🇧

Janine Crainich

I'm so glad I was an 80s child

Dango247

I think this was one of the earliest examples of 'rotoscoping'. Made famous by the film A Scanner Darkly.

it was certainly a great time to be alive for us kids, the crazy thing is it doesn't actually feel like that long ago until you actually think about it and how much things have changed - and not for the better. :)

'74 kid here, brought up in the 80's. There's always debate over whether the 80's were a good or bad time to be brought up in, as there were just as many social and economical problems that we have today. My take is that the 80's were great, because media was geared towards positivity and escapism. The colourful clothes and hairstyles, the escapist movies and the generally positive music gave us a much needed outlet from all of our troubles. Unfortunately today with social media, everything seems to be geared towards negativity and hate. We're unable to get away from all of life's problems, and in some cases we thrive on things like "doom scrolling" to cope with it. Also movies and television seem to be geared towards social messaging rather than entertainment, and music tends to veer towards soulless and bland. The 80's did "life" far better in my humble opinion.

Jay

AHA! I see what you did there!

Terrible video I’m sooooooo disappointed, I’ve watched this through a few times now and still no sign of Alan Partridge! 😔

Iconic iconic video that still holds its place 40 years on. These guys were awesome. Great reaction guys. One memory that always sticks out to me is that they were playing a gig in my home town, and on the day of the gig they were wandering around town and nipped into the fruit and veg shop where my Mum worked. She literally served them, 6 bananas, 4 apples, and 3 punnets (baskets) of strawberries. Me and my friend arrived, after school, just to catch them walking away. Ran up to my Mum, overcome with excitement, and she had no idea who the hell they were despite loving the song and seeing the video numerous times lol. When i told her she could not believe it and went all woozy and light headed because she served Morten and he smiled at her. It was funny.

It's crazy how this music video is still so good today. I grew up in the 80s and when people ask what time period you'd travel to if you had a time machine I'd go back to the 80s. GTA Vice City really nailed the vibes.

I did a module called "Communication 4" in my final year of Secondary School and one thing we did was look at a few music videos that were key when it changed from simply videos of the band playing into the "mini movie" format, as Mike called it, and this was one of them. Great video, and very lavish animation for that time. Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video was of course another hugely influential one.

I was born in 1957, so I guess I got lucky in terms of experiencing music genres. I have vivid memories of The Beatles and The Stones in the 60s. Hit my teens in 1970, so got the full Bowie experience. Turned 19 in London just as punk exploded and was there to live and breathe it. Rode the New Wave in the 80s and got into The Smiths and the whole Madchester thing. Was too busy raising my kids to be fully engaged in Brit Pop in the 90s.

Thomas

Here’s a video of the girl Bunty Bailey and singer Morten Harket meeting in the same cafe in London last year. Both are now in their 60s. https://youtu.be/GDF7qoE3ZMg?si=m6bRBUh1ksBjITFD

Here’s a bit of a fun fact - Morten Harket (lead singer of A-Ha) was the first person to have sung their own song on the UK version of the Masked Singer. He was ‘Viking’ and still got a great voice - https://youtu.be/SVqGFe6lf5s?si=Bs7lJhTEMaHm0pJv

Great reaction guys, like you I love the look and feel of the 80s. Wish I could have experienced it but also similar to you both i'm technically an 80s baby but was only alive for 4 months of it. I'm sure it wasnt as romanticised as it is in my head but its an era that feels so warm to me.

Only a minute in and already enjoying the shade and honesty!
