An Idiot Abroad - S2E7 'Mount Fuji'

Comments

Wouldn't it have been more worthwhile Mike to keep the cat as an indoor/outdoor cat and had Jess live in the garden. You could have built a shed or some form of dwelling for her the mic could go through the cat flap or out of the window when you do reactions. Everyone's a winner then. Just a thought for the future 🤗

I did this Fuji hike in summer 2010, which is probably when Karl did it seeing as this episode was released in 2011. If you ever get the chance, do it. It's the mountain climber's views for non-mountain climbers. It's absolutely stunning. What's amazing is that it's absolutely silent up there. Nothing. No wind, no civilisation. I even saw lightning in the distance, at a much lower altitude than where I was standing. Again, silence. No thunder. I didn't take or need an oxygen can, and didn't have any difficulty breathing. I did get a sharp headache when I was almost at the top, but luckily I had some paracetamol that seemed to do the job. Guess it depends on the individual. BTW, I think the lower quality camera they used is probably because the higher quality one was probably way too bulky. Remember, it was almost 15 years ago, where even smart phones were a brand new thing. Recording tech has shrunk considerably since then.

Dr Karl Pilkington - Hemorrhoids are caused by sitting on cold surfaces, as they cause a 'cold arse' in sufferers. KARL is the greatest thinker of our time!!!!

Gerard McCartan

Love the way Jess got a little emotional when Karl talked about finishing things. Terrific reaction from two (Mike as well, of course) genuine people.

You're likely quite a bit younger than me, KB, but Lipton's tea vans were pretty common in the late 70's and early 80's of my childhood. The black and yellow livery was quite iconic.

RDV

Not a fan of rollercoasters. Trains shouldn’t do aerobatics

Kieran B

I’m surprised Karl said Lipton’s is very good as it’s not widely available here (although it is a British brand) and is considered to be floor sweepings generally…

Kieran B

Where I’m from in Scotland you walk by a stranger smile and say “awright” 🤣

Nichole Hutchison

Yeah the Salaryman is somewhat infamous, but I know plenty of people that have worked there and the key part is to be seen to be present, not to necessarily be working. It depends on the nature of the business to an extent I suspect.

Kieran B

The thing about the fermented fish, its not necessarily that weird. We have fermented fish in Europe as well, and East Asians are often just as disgusted by an aged blue cheese or something, as East Asians tend to eat far less dairy compared to Europeans. The idea of years old fermented milk with a very strong flavour is comparable to the fermented fish in Japan, from a different cultural perspective.

😂😂😂

Jaxon's Jerseys

They often literally work themselves to death, super high work rate and impose a huge burden on themselves. I read a study once that said the job with highest suicide rate in the world is the Japanese businessman/office worker. The 2nd was New York policeman

Danny

you both are a bundle of joy in video form, good vibes from the very start! i love this episode , karl gets it done proper , props to karl 👍👍

TheHigh

Talking of never running down hills, you need to check out the Gloucestershire cheese rolling competition, in the UK.

Robert Froude

Mike wanting the camera man to carry a full on camera up mount Fuji is hilarious... The poor fella would be dead 😂😂

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

That rollercoaster looked brilliant 🤩 haha my Granny always told me that’s how you get haemorrhoids it’s an old wives tale 🤣. This episode made me want to climb Mount Fuji

Erica

Karl is of course wrong about a cold arse leading to haemorrhoids, however it is a popular myth.

Peter

The wasp jelly is an energy supplement. It is sold in the US under the brand Vespa Power. It is meant to be made from an actual wasp extract that speeds up the process of turning fat into energy. It is considered a high quality product

Danny

Season 2 will begin 6 April, s1 is in the collections

Brucey Mitchell (Cheeky)

Don't think it would be wise to climb a mountain with a big high quality shoulder mounted camera 😅 probably just have little go pro equivalent at the time.

Danny

The show’s rotate, it’s been discussed and mentioned many times. They are watching 6 shows in 3 slots. Every show rotates between seasons.

Julian T

No

Michael Oliver

Closing your eyes on a rollercoaster is the worst thing you can do, especially if you're scared of them. You've gotta try and fully embrace it, eyes wide open, and scream into the wind XD

Wilss

I still need to get caught up on last weeks, so this one is gonna have to wait.

Brucey Mitchell (Cheeky)

That's a joke, right?

Brucey Mitchell (Cheeky)

What’s happened to the inbetweeners

Michael Oliver

The Japanese work ludicrous hours so they don’t really get much free time to work out, a lot of it as with any culture that works long hours is presenteeism - just showing up and not really being as productive as you’ll find in cultures that work shorter hours

Kieran B

The harmonica thing is ridiculous. It's in a consistent slow breathing pattern, like someone fell asleep with a harmonica in their mouth

Danny

I will not have cat hair bandied around that cafe. Willy. Nilly.

Dan G, Leicester

Perfect timing. My takeout just arrived.
