2025-06-12 14:21:03 +0000 UTCNah, lots of Kinks stuff has been licensed for film and TV in the past. Most artists are largely fine with it, when there's issues it's invariably down to the publishers throwing their weight around.

2025-03-23 13:12:55 +0000 UTCOr the misery-guts that are the Davies bros. put the mockers on it. LOL

2025-03-22 19:58:35 +0000 UTCRe. the title music, one of the songs proposed for the opening of the US Office was "Better Things" by the Kinks. I think the music they ended up using was a bit of a royalty-free knockoff of that.
Charlie
2025-03-22 13:37:26 +0000 UTCNot sure what it's like in America but Brent isn't too bad over here because he's the person in the office you laugh at. You get to rip into them whenever you talk to them and everyone in the office joins in and has a laugh at his expense normally.
Brendan
2025-03-20 20:35:58 +0000 UTCOne of my all-time favourites

2025-03-20 15:07:49 +0000 UTCThe theme is "Handbags and Gladrags" by Rod Stewart, great song, you could react to it.

2025-03-19 21:57:15 +0000 UTCI have never, ever, re-watched reactions. Until now. And by the way (hence the edit), I looked it up and there really is a Lamb Pub in Chichester! This show was bang on.

2025-03-19 03:16:43 +0000 UTCYou’re absolutely right a special version was recorded especially for the show, and that Stereophonics recorded one around this time (due to popularity from the show). But actually the version featured was performed by vocalist Fin Muir, of the band Waystead.

2025-03-18 23:16:16 +0000 UTCGreat reaction the office just gets better n better

2025-03-18 22:48:27 +0000 UTCThe only writers of the UK Office are Ricky and Steve, UK sitcoms (and often dramas) don’t have writers rooms - usually just one or two writers for the whole thing. 4 would be a around the maximum (like the Thick of It). The Inbetweeners only has two writers as well (who also created it). Fawlty Towers is just John Cleese (Basil) and Connie Booth (Polly). One or two really is the norm, that’s why series (or seasons) are so short. But also why characters are more consistent, and really are characters rather than repositories for jokes. The writers usually have ownership of the show too so if they want to stop making it they do, there’s no studio system to keep milking it beyond its natural life.

2025-03-18 21:46:19 +0000 UTCI really prefer the Stereophonics cover, I think it's better than the original but then I'm a biased fan lol
Karen Campbell
2025-03-18 21:42:41 +0000 UTCYeah I think it’s definitely less unusual for platonic kisses here than the US for what it’s worth. Less so than say France though. There was nothing really like this in terms of comedies on at the time (other than the Royle Family although not quite the same) and there were a lot of documentary series like this on at the time - it’s also entirely believable this is what people would behave like in a British office (especially then) if a camera crew came in.
Kieran B
2025-03-18 21:31:27 +0000 UTCFantastic actor

2025-03-18 21:24:30 +0000 UTCYeh Rod Stewart’s version became the most popular one over the years even though it wasn’t a hit. Fun fact. I’ve seen Mike d’Abo, Rod Stewart and Stereophonics all perform it live. I had a feeling I’d also seen Chris Farlowe on one of those 60s themed shows with various artists, but I could be wrong there. Another fun fact. My parents hired Manfred Mann (called The Manfreds these days) to perform at their 60th birthday celebration. That was back in 2012. They saw them again a couple months ago. The original singer, Paul Jones, is still going strong at 83.

2025-03-18 21:16:34 +0000 UTCfray bentos is a British pie in a can lol
jamestoni
2025-03-18 21:09:27 +0000 UTCThe theme tune for The Office is “Handbags and Gladrags,” originally written in 1967 by Mike d’Abo and covered multiple times over the years. Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant initially wanted to use Rod Stewart’s version, but it was beyond their budget. Instead, they approached The Stereophonics, who recorded a new version specifically for the show.

2025-03-18 20:59:23 +0000 UTCAlso covered by Rod Stewart

2025-03-18 20:47:32 +0000 UTCThe whole reason for having Finchy as a character is to show people what a real dickhead is. This in turn makes you realise that Brent isn't that bad, really. He's misunderstood, he's petulant, he's a bit of a tit, but he's not nasty or cruel or a bully.
Steve Small
2025-03-18 20:37:08 +0000 UTCP.S. Mike and Jess listen out for the short 'David Brent' version over the credits coming up.

2025-03-18 20:27:40 +0000 UTCLove how much you guys are enjoying this show. Next episode is one of the best!

2025-03-18 20:09:36 +0000 UTCBrent is vulnerable and insecure and is desperate to be liked and respected by everyone.
Fordy7169
2025-03-18 20:00:11 +0000 UTCHandbags and Gladrags was written in 1967 by Mike D'Abo (lead singer with the group Manfred Mann) and was a done by many acts over the years - Chris Farlowe, Love Affair, Chase, Jon English, Rod Stewart, Stereophonics. The version on The Office was by Big George and because The Office and it's theme became popular in 2001 the Stereophonics' record company released it as a single and added it to future releases of their album 'Just Enough Education To Perform'.

2025-03-18 19:57:59 +0000 UTCI am David Brent based on your comment 😭😆
Mark Rudd
2025-03-18 19:29:07 +0000 UTCThe he song is handbags and gladrags by the stereophonics. You actually have heard them from your reaction on bands that never made America
Mark Rudd
2025-03-18 19:28:32 +0000 UTCOn the likeability of David Brent, you don’t have to like him but there are moments of redemption here and there. He’s a lonely guy who wants to be liked. He makes poor decisions and says inappropriate things. He has a good heart though, it comes through at times.
Julian T
2025-03-18 19:04:22 +0000 UTCPost credits stuff is common with stuff by Ricky and Steve. They don't add much, it literally is like 3 seconds after the credits. I think several of the episodes of Extras has them too and all of Lifes Too Short does.
Danny
2025-03-18 18:48:26 +0000 UTCYeah only episode 1 and 2 is available to view in the UK on YouTube. Rest are region blocked.
Danny
2025-03-18 18:44:36 +0000 UTCThe next episode “Training” imo is one of the best. Up there with Fawlty Towers “The Germans”
Tony McColl
2025-03-18 18:28:45 +0000 UTCAh OK perfect, thanks for clarifying 👍

2025-03-18 18:12:30 +0000 UTCThe big difference for me is the us office developed the other characters after second season, by doing that they expanded the show while the original office was solely around Brent, Tim dawn and Gareth, we never learned much about the background characters unlike the us office
Jaxon's Jerseys
2025-03-18 18:12:21 +0000 UTCJohn krasinski was a big fan of the office, it shows with his mannerisms, really took that tim role on board

2025-03-18 17:52:34 +0000 UTCThey did episode 2, I think they've just forgotten to add it to their Office playlist.
Dan G, Leicester
2025-03-18 17:52:17 +0000 UTCApologies if this was already mentioned but was there a reason why episode 2 was skipped, thanks

2025-03-18 17:47:27 +0000 UTCThe next episode is one of the greatest episodes of any TV show ever. Can’t wait for your reaction

2025-03-18 17:28:11 +0000 UTCThe next episode is the best out of all of them. Can't wait to watch you guys watch it.

2025-03-18 17:12:07 +0000 UTCYour reactions bring a whole new level of enjoyment to watching The Office. Thank you 👍🏼.
Thomas
2025-03-18 17:09:53 +0000 UTCThe Stereophonics, the Welsh band you both liked in the Mojo UK reaction, do an amazing version of the closing titles song, Handbags And Gladrags,
Thomas
2025-03-18 17:06:49 +0000 UTCMe too. It's brilliant
Jamie
2025-03-18 17:04:22 +0000 UTCFinchy is played by a top actor Ralph Ineson who you may have seen in things such as Harry Potter, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Chernobyl and many others. He does a fair bit of voice work and you may have heard him in Video Games such as the pirate Charles Vane in Assassins Creed: Black Flag or as Cid in Final Fantasy XVI He's also a big Leeds United fan like what I am
Daz Parker
2025-03-18 16:59:37 +0000 UTCJust in case you were wondering (and assuming this product isn't known in the US), when David thought the Cuban leader was 'Fray Bentos', that's a brand of tinned pies here in the UK.
Dan G, Leicester
2025-03-18 16:59:23 +0000 UTCYou're so right for about Tim and Jim being the same character. It's interesting they did that when Gareth and Dwight are totally different portrayals of that role in the show
James Aston
2025-03-18 16:55:08 +0000 UTCYou do know that Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant wrote the Office?
Al Neve
2025-03-18 16:52:46 +0000 UTCAnother great reaction as always! Always think it’s unhelpful to compare the US and UK office, though. One’s a sitcom (US) and ones a mockumentary (UK) - too different for comparison haha
Fred
2025-03-18 16:48:19 +0000 UTCCant wait gys 2 cracking reactions for tonight😊
Theloyalmuppet
2025-03-18 16:29:18 +0000 UTCThe theme tune is an arrangement of Rod Stewart's version of "Handbags and Gladrags" created by a guy called Big George. They wanted to use the Rod Stewart version, but it was too expensive.

2025-03-18 16:21:11 +0000 UTCLegends. Watching you watch The Office is my new favourite thing.
