Comments

No one ever says the full name. We just say Llanfair, Llanfair PG or Llanfairpwll.

SquaredSpekz

Understandable Watch Mojo etc are full of errors.

Rob G

Just to add... I'm not criticising Mike for the selection or Jess for the reaction, but the choice was 'piss poor' from the subscribers.

RDV

Jess would love map men, map men, map men men men

RDV

The stamp thing is a myth

Kieran B

There are Knowledge tests for various cities but the London one is most famous. Tom the Taxi Driver is a great channel, he’s done videos on the knowledge that might be worth checking out, I’ll put some on the playlist

Kieran B

100%

Kieran B

This is a piss poor vid. Check out Jay Foreman for funnier and better examples of UK culture.

RDV

Strange one on stamps, we often get special limited edition stamps, which I'm sure most of the world does. But the current ones are for the band AC/DC...

Andy

How can something opened in 1895 be demolished 22 years later in 1907?

Static CentreHalf

There is a video of taron edgerton on the Johnathan Ross show saying the name of the town in wales

Jackdeel

😂

Kieran B

Ricky, not going to try and equate my issues with yours but I had some similar issues. I am a white South African born to English parents in South Africa. Growing up I saw the injustice around me and that was mainly because I had English parents. Time came when we had to move because I had a violent autistic brother and my parents realised they didn’t want to exist in a retarded country anymore. Move to England and what happens? Well I’m a racist bastard that needs to be thumped day after day and made an example of by the school principal in assembly. My experience of English education was a fucking nightmare, I was so happy to leave those bullies who attacked me under the guise of justice. I hated school in England with an intensity that will never leave me to this day.

Rob G

Oh Kieran B this is so peak you. Going into the finer details of the Welsh language as if Mike and Jess will get it lol. ❤️👍❤️

Rob G

I know, I voted for it. I'm not saying it's a bad video I'm just pointing out that videos like this are not 100% correct, the same goes if a British, Scottish or Irish person made a video about facts about America they aren't going to get it 100% right.

JokerDanny

This video won a vote put up by RGTV. The UK audience was responsible for it. Just saying.

Rob G

I love you both, I think you may be secretly Scottish based on your sense of humour! I signed up to Patreon just to ask who asked you to watch the police ambulance fire brigade clip! You must get good recommendations but that one was so odd! You have to do a tour of Scotland. Don’t stress about travel you will have the best time.

Graham Espie

An American telling us facts about the UK... sigh!! Not even current .. sigh! Almost as bad as Wolter's World or the guy from across the Pond...sigh!!

Nadean Simmons

I always find it funny how these "facts about the UK" type videos are always made by Americans or always have an American doing the voice over because 9 times out of 10 there's always a few things that are just not correct or they don't give you enough information about, for example; The Knowledge isn't just a thing London tazi drivers have to pass, EVERY cities Black Cab taxi drivers have to take that test and memorize whatever city route they are working in but this video made it sound like it was only for London. I think you guys should react to these UK education videos only if they at least have a person from the UK presenting it.🤣

JokerDanny

muslims always name their first son Mohammed whereas the rest of us choose from hundreds of names. It's not hard to work out

Mike

Ahhh a Scottish/Irish real life Bounty haha

Brucey Mitchell (Cheeky)

The Knowledge is crazy. The area covered is around 25,000 streets, plus you need to know the locations of all points of interest and be able to state the most efficient route between any of them. I don't think I could ever do it!

Sigma

You only need to know central london by heart the outer boroughs you only need to know the Main streets. My younger brotherpassed the knowledge after4 years studying and being out on his bike with a clipboardlearning the routes. It is not just knowledge of the streets a s the examiners will say an off the cuff remark to see if you reply, that can fail you as a cabbie Is supposed to be impartial and not comment as it could offend the customer. They have also been known to sit there whilst asking routes with something weird up their nose or in their ears, again trying to get a reaction from the cabbie to be, as he may have a passenger who has something wrong with them. Once passed London cabbies however seem to forget this ruling and pass all sorts of comments.

Sibbo

The basic ticket for the London Eye, paid in advance of the date you book, is $38. I don’t think it’s worth it. The Sky Garden offers as good a view of London and is free when you book a table at one of its bars or restaurants, I believe. It’s been a while since I done either, so I am happy to be corrected.

Thomas

The knowledge, the taxi driver test is insane. It's not just knowing the streets. You need to know the buildings as well, and the shortest possible route between any 2 places. People spend years learning it

CONALL MCLAUGHLIN

If you’ve got the Map Men videos in the playlist you’ll hear Jay say the Welsh name in one, Llanfair PG is what most locals call it. It’s hard to describe how too pronounce ll, you put your tongue on the roof of your mouth behind your teeth - it’s sort of like thl but not really. Fair is Vire (f is always v, ff is f, dd is th, eu is ey (as in hey), u is ee, y is uh or ih depending on where it is in the word (that varies from North to South Wales), w is uh… and so on. Once you know the rules its consistent.

Kieran B

Don’t be bringing facts into things 😂

Kieran B

The Liberty Bell was made in the same foundry as Big Ben, in Whitechapel (London). It was still open until fairly recently too.

Kieran B

👍 I lived in ards, Bangor and south Belfast about 17 years ago for a good few years and don’t even remember what I used to do on Sundays- the cinema thing I’d heard of briefly but to be honest if the pubs were open I wouldn’t have gone to watch a film 🤣🤷‍♂️ I quite liked living there and loads of amazing scenery not too far away so plenty of little day trips to Portrush, Enneskillen, Giants causeway and Carrick-a-rede rope bridge etc. I’m originally from the north east of England so appreciate the coastline and castles etc (old before my time) 🤣🤣👍

Ianoo23

Religious reasons, but outdated one. Same reason why stores like Tesco don't open until like 1pm on a Sunday, and why city centre (in Belfast) is empty on a Sunday, barely anything open.

Mark McKeown

Yes and it’s not just an immigration point, because the Muslim population is still relatively low. It’s quite interesting. British people are just not interested in having children, it’s the lowest it’s ever been. When you look up birth rates among Muslims in general compared to the stats for England and Wales, they have twice as many babies. Also Muhammad is by far their most popular name, whereas the British names are spread among many more options (Including non British names like Luca and Leo which seem to be high on the list)

Julian T

Why is the Republic of Ireland left on the map when describing Great Britain? 🤦🏻‍♂️

Martyn Dawson

I’m sure you already know the egg thing but in US you wash off the protective coating an egg has in the name of “sanitation” so you need to store them in the fridge as they are then susceptible to infection. We just take them from the chicken and put them in the cupboard. Chickens don’t use fridges, they keep them warm

SimonNZ

There’s a short clip of Taron Egerton saying it , https://youtube.com/shorts/_TzaYIXSAyA?si=qbGmmzZOl_CYPtzz

Dan-C

I'm a scouser and proud of it. You can only be a scouser if you were born in Liverpool.

Clem Fandango

Welsh is an amazing and ancient language . My Granny spoke Welsh and I wish she had spoken in Welsh to me a lot more as I would have picked up lots more. It’s a shame they didn’t have someone say the name of the town for you to hear. There are some YT videos you’ll find where you can hear the pronunciation . Oh and my granny lived to 102 and she had her telegram from the Queen when she turned 100 🩷

Erica

My parents live in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyndobwyllantyilio gogogoch, known locally as Llanfair PG. We find it easy to say, but the narrator couldn't even manage the English version.

Dave Roberts

What an awful video, are we all 7 years old??

Dave Roberts

We are a weird place but its quirks are what makes us interesting, some of the bye-laws in this country are actually crazy if you think some of these things in the video are a little mad

Chris Harding

The stamp mentioned is not Black Penny, it’s Penny Black.

Rob G

London is double the size of New York City in area. So learning the "knowledge" is no mean feat.

Paul

"Great Britain is NOT the name of the country".... 2 mins later "Great Britain is the only country without it's name on a stamp"!

Andrew PC

Indeed. Now, there's a conversation starter. Or perhaps not lol

Brucey Mitchell (Cheeky)

Ricky

The knowledge involves learning a set number of routes and all the places off them!

Nix001

Upside down stamp is a myth. no one cares. the Royal Mail still deliver your letter.

James Welsh

I believe the cinema on Sunday thing in Northern Ireland is or was down to religion, there have definitely been some open on Sundays since this video was made but I’m not sure if it’s still a thing or if they apply for a licence or something now. The term for scousers or people from Liverpool is pronounced Liver-pud-lian and not pooh-dlian 🤣👍 The London eye pods can fit 25 people in. Although the most common greeting is Alright? This can vary from place to place… a lot of old school people use the time of day to say hi… so morning! Afternoon! Or evening! With a smile as you pass. Obviously less formal when greeting friends you can use anything from Karl’s monotone aright? to the inbetweeners popular greeting of morning benders! 🤣🤣🤷‍♂️
