U2 - October/New Years Day (Live From Red Rocks, 1983)

Comments

if you think that's impressive then you should listen to some Rush. On certain songs Geddy Lee plays Bass, Keyboards with his hands and feet and sings at the same time :)

Loved U2 in this period and through the 80s but can’t stand what they became - especially Bono. Great to see this again. This concert was magnificent and I think ‘bono was only 21 here. Remarkable really. Just a pity they didn’t retire in 1992

The guitarist on the Piano is the Edge. He gets a bad rap from the guitar aficionados but U2’s whole sound is based on the pallet of sounds he gets from his guitar effects and he is still a great musician

What do you mean by "Liberal woke mind virus"? ..He turns up at Davos to mingle with the billionaires and accepts shit like presidential medals of honour from Genocide Joe. That ain't woke, mate, that's what I mean by establishment shill.

Martyn Dawson

I’m with you on that , however I can detach young Bono from the version we have today infected by the liberal woke mind virus . If you notice is is also virtue signalling with his solidarity tee shirt . He does seem to be wearing Cossack pants tucked into his boots , which a bit of mixed message . Whose side was he on 🤣

October is one of my all time fav u2 songs , saves up to buy their first two albums and treasures them .

Yeah back in action guys! well done! Proud of ye readdressing the USA world balance with Trumps madness!! 🤣 1 video at a time!! ♥️

Paul

I love you two but I don’t like U2 🤣. I promise I’ll watch your next upload, as long as it’s not U2 😉 Hope you’re both ok I know you’re having a very difficult time xxx

Erica

There's only 4 members in U2, 'Bono' (Paul Hewson), Guitarist/Keyboards 'The Edge' (David Evans), Bass Adam Clayton and Drums Larry Mullen. The other peoplke you might have seen on stage were the mobile cameramen.

Can't stand Bono. Turned into an establishment shill. Which is pretty grim for an Irishman. 🤮

Martyn Dawson

I’m not a great fan of U2, but even I can appreciate the musical brilliance of each of them. You don’t get a song as incredible as this without a solid rhythm section - drums and bass are impeccable. Bono’s voice in this era was immensely powerful. The Edge on guitar/piano - it’s otherworldly what he can do.

Derek Fleming

I'm not a big fan of U2's current iteration, but back then, they were incredible! This song wasn’t really meant as a New Year’s anthem, but was about Lech Walesa, the electrician-turned-leader of Solidarity, the movement that challenged Communist rule in Poland. He was a huge figure in the ‘80s, eventually becoming Poland’s president in 1990. U2 were deeply political then, due in no small part to what is now known as ‘The Troubles’ in Northern Ireland. Growing up in London, the bombings of the ‘80s and early ‘90s were sadly common but thanks to Bill Clinton and John Kerry mediating with Tony Blairs government a peace plan ended this.

Welcome back. I don’t like U2 so I will give this a miss.
