Came back to see how this did. I think the polls are really interesting and I get some are frustrated as they'll see their recommendation and they've spammed the playlist and now worried theirs will never win. But, I think this really brings the cream to the top, even if I don't always agree to it. And I know the idea is to get Mike and Jess to react to these things and I'm sure it'll happen over time. But, the playlists are also fun just to look through and watch / listen.

2025-01-30 22:42:51 +0000 UTCI wasn't trying to be annoying or pendantic, but I can see advantages for you if you give us the chance to see exactly what it is we are voting for. Is it possible to link to each playlist item from the poll instead, so that we know if you will watch the best version of any particular video? I have noticed, for instance, that the version of Joe Wilkinson's poem on 8 Out Of 10 Cats I linked to has the run-up to his poem that gives essential context to it, including the fact that each comedian in turn is reading a poem they have written for the famous Scouse punk poet, John Cooper Clarke, culminating in Joe Wilkinson's, while on the comedy playlist someone has linked to a more common version that removes that lead-up and has inserted a clip about balloon animals from the same show, apparently because whoever posted the original video thought it hilarious. Every US reaction I have seen watches that second version and is confused as to the poem's background. Like your decision to watch the VC documentary before 'The Greatest Raid', I expect you can rely on us to point out such errors, but only if we know exactly which version of a video you intend to watch, should it win the poll.

2025-01-30 19:10:11 +0000 UTCAbsolutely my favourite comedy of the last 20 years or so, by a country mile. Mitchell and Webb at their best. It reminds me so much of my own life and the characters I have known who lived (and sometimes died) on the edge of society. I do hope Mike and Jess get to move past the scornful Ricky Gervais hole they have been sucked into by Patreon/YouTube recommendations. They are such a positive, life-affirming couple that deserves so much better, to my mind.

2025-01-30 18:33:22 +0000 UTCBecause I didn't know any of the clips at all and will not vote on something until I at least know what it is about, even if I haven't seen the entire clip. I am a huge fan of Mitchell and Webb, but wasn't sure which sketch it referred to until I checked the clip. Incidentally, their sketch "Are We The Baddies' is world famous and maybe the best introduction to them as a duo (although you know David Mitchell as team captain from Would I Lie To You, of course). It is very short though, so might be best watched alongside some of their equally hilarious sketches, such as the Brain Surgeon and Homeopathic Hospital, which I think can be found together, or even the brilliant conspiracy theory sketches. Their humour is hilarious and often very intelligent and thought provoking, without any need to resort to the nastiness that Ricky Gervais so often indulges in.

I do find him quite funny, particularly when Karl Pilkington is involved, but he really isn't as smart as he believes himself to be and is unnecessarily unpleasant, 'the brave little Cisboy' (see the fabulous James Acaster taking him down hilariously: https://youtu.be/adh0KGmgmQw?si=Yh3IcHS-z5lIxZuX).

I added the Playlist extension to Chrome, but that appears to go to the item's page, rather than the item within the list, so from there it isn't possible to move it up, which I had intended to do for everyone's benefit. There is also no option to 'move to top of list', so I had to drag the first I could find, 'That Mitchell and Web Look - Gentlemen' to the top by dragging and dropping, which is very slow on a playlist so vast.
