2025-01-13 14:38:51 +0000 UTCI studied hydrography (making charts) at University for my second qualification and if you’re on the edge of the map you use a a different map where you’re not on the edge 😀 just like I’ve seen US maps with the US in the middle even though it’s towards the edge based on 0 - it’s just the line going through wherever you are will still be close to 180). For navigation you use multiple charts (a map that’s more water than land) anyway depending on where you’re going, often at multiple scales - near a harbour you want all the detail you can get. For ocean navigation you can essentially use a blank piece of paper (called a plotting sheet) that only has the latitude and longitude lines on you need, and you can write them in yourself.
