The Inbetweeners - S1 E1 First Day

Comments

Though this is a good introduction to the series, it's the one that that bugs me the most. Jay was served, therefore an adult, but the barman refused to serve him the drinks for his friends or state the rules. On top of this, Will for some reason called on the adult at the bar (Steve) to assist rather than Jay, who already got served. This scene still annoys me today as it makes no sense and not many people pick on this, lol.

Ever So Sweet Mary Jane

I'm rewatching the reaction and only just thought it weird that all the new kids wear black suits but everyone else wears shirt and tie or sweaters.

Karlos

Having a chill day today so away to watch all of these again lol

Brucey Mitchell (Cheeky)

Tom (Carleys boyfriend) isn't a student. It's the trope of upper school girls going out with much older guys. We have a few of them in my school. One girl was going out with a 28 year old when we were in sixth form. We don't do the whole holding people back until they pass business that you do.

Mike M

Wanker = Masturbater

Stewart Hainey

The guy you were thinking of is Will Poulter. Also an English actor even though he mostly plays an American.

Robert McMillan

Fruit machines have different names across the UK but most will know what you mean. I grew up as them being puggies or bandits. But yeah, a slot machine. They're pretty much in every pub and a lot of chip shops may have 1 too. Usually pubs have 1 though, not a line of them or anything like that. The game they were playing in the second pub was just a trivia based game, they wouldn't get called fruit machines or fruities.

Andy Robinson

Yes! I wish this show wasn't accurate for many teens in the UK at that time!

Andy Robinson

I joined just for these haha, your reactions are great, the cringe is perfect! It's cool you're checking out more than one show as well! Peep Show would be a fun one to try, it's got its fair share of cringe too =]

Mark McKeown

Omg yess!!

Amazing that you're doing the Inbetweeners. 2025 is going to be a great year 😁

This was absolutely a massive mainstream TV show here in 2008 - 2019. You'll learn a whole new vocabulary. A pint here is slightly larger than a US pint. 'Gash' is probably the word you were thinking of - and you can probably work out what it means. Oh yeah plenty of girls were like that at my school

Kieran B

We don't graduate from grades here - we have 'years' where you just move up as you get older - if you're exceptionally bright you can move up a year early but that's not common.

Kieran B

Think of a pub as a shared lounge / front room (literally short for public house) so it's more of a community hub than a bar which is more or less purely for alcohol - as you say they are very different entities and have different connotations and cultures. Some pubs have carveries, but most don't, although country pubs especially are often known for doing good Sunday roasts - some town pubs too though.

Kieran B

There's a series of sketches (and a movie) about Kevin the Teenager that Harry Enfield did - the character is iconic and what you described is often referred to as 'being a Kevin' here. This is the first sketch https://youtu.be/dLuEY6jN6gY?si=ZelHTBKwy9yJ-MFm

Over here you have to develop a thick skin in school or you won’t last, you have to be able to take the piss and take it back. It lasts all the way through to adulthood, if you meet someone new and they take the piss it’s like a friendship test, if you respond well you’ve got a friend for life. You might like Kalyn she’s done some good videos on this and on pub culture, her channel is Girl Gone London.

Terrahawk

I think the actor you are talking about from Meet The Millers, is Will Poulter, I think the last thing I saw him in was The Bear, and I hope your sitting down, he's an English actor...lol

Jason Bonner

They're in '6th Form' which is 16-18 where you do 3-4 A-levels in subjects relevant to what you want to study at University - here we don't major but study one (or at most two) specific subjects. So I did nothing but history for 3 years.

Kieran B

This is so accurate as to how school was in England in the late 90s / early 2000s.

Kieran B

I’ve seen this show so many times and with other reactors but even I was cringing for Jess, but I do think by the end of this season it will be normal to you. The song at the end was The Libertines - Don’t look back into the sun

Jay D

I have a feeling the word you were unsure of was ‘gash’ maybe? Which means female genitalia 😂, or is a crude way of referring to women

Cem

Also just checked and “Superbad”was before this which is a movie I haven’t watched, yet.

John Gault

Couldn't wait and had to watch straight away 😂, and yes as Bobby said the 2 movies were made after the show had finished!, neil is brilliant as it goes on!

Dan-C

On the pub question, the two featured are typical of out-of-town/village pubs. Yes, many do serve food. In the village where I grew up there were three pubs surrounding the small village pond. You would just pick one as your ‘local’ and stick with it. Pubs have quizzes, darts teams and even football teams that play in proper leagues. Of course, town and city pubs are different, but even in big cities you will find traditional ‘locals’ like this. No loud music, maybe a TV but generally places to meet, talk and have a laugh.

Thomas

The whole “Lee Sharp” thing is a quiz machine where you play for money.

John Gault

OMG here we go, awesome you are doing these! Much love from 🇬🇧

Mark Sanders

Oh is it Christmas again already? ❤️

Rob G

Brilliant! Your reactions quadrupled the comedy level of an already legendary show. Neil emerges as one of the funniest characters ever to appear in a TV show, but they are all hilarious in their own way. The song at the end which Jess liked is Don’t Look Back Into The Sun by The Libertines, and is typical of a whole catalogue of British music which very much went under the radar in the USA (where Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Queen are more popular).

Thomas

Both movies should be watched after the end of season 3. The movies came out afterwards.

Bobby K

We've gotta keep you on your toes!

RegenerationNationTV

We plan to. Is there a proper time/order for watching the movies?

RegenerationNationTV

I love this very exciting 👏🏻. I was at university in 2008 and one of the other students told me about this as her husband was a producer on it. I got home and put it on the tv and was hooked.

Erica

Great reaction

Neil Tristram

Oh here we go!!

James Aston

I'm so happy right now, thank you for this

Mark Topham

Saw notification and had to drop what I was doing

Jay Lo

I wasnt expecting this! Absolutely legendary show. Yeah you have been warned haha. I hope its not too much for you.

Bobby K

Hope you do every episode and the movies I've watched it through so many times with different American reactors 😂 not seen your reaction yet will watch later 😁
