Basic Workers' Rights UK vs USA

Comments

Thank you so much!

RegenerationNationTV

Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s incredible how much of a difference proper support and workplace policies can make, especially during tough times. Stories like yours highlight just how far the U.S. still has to go in providing basic rights and protections for workers. We’re glad you had the flexibility to take care of both your partner and yourself without added stress. Everyone deserves that kind of understanding and support—it shouldn’t be a luxury. Wishing you and your partner all the best as you continue navigating these challenges!

Thank you so much for sharing your story and for the encouragement! It’s amazing that you’ve been able to work for yourself for so many years—congratulations on that success! We’re trying to make sure Patreon stays a “nice-to-have” rather than a “must-have” for our audience. With the way we handle copyright on our channel, some videos can’t be made public for up to 30 days, so offering early access and ad-free viewing feels like a good balance for now. If we start reacting to TV shows or movies, we might need to cut some parts out for YouTube, but the unedited versions would definitely go on Patreon. That ‘Help! We Bought a Village’ show sounds right up our alley! We love watching things like that. Hopefully, down the line, we’ll be able to invest in some kind of business, and if it’s something we can create content around, even better! Thanks again for your kind words and ideas—it means a lot to us!

That's amazing! I am happy to hear that the situation went well for you friend!

Thank you Thomas. I'm not sure if something changed, if it just got a lot worse since the 70s, or it was always this bad and the internet just makes it easier for all of us to know more about what is truly going on. It is mind-blowing to know what the government allows these corporations to get away with.

Good luck with you both going full-time on YouTube. You do an excellent job and desire every success. Our two nations are very different. When I was young in the 70s, it always seemed that the USA was the benchmark, the golden place on the hill we should all be inspired by. It doesn’t feel like that today. I can’t believe how poorly the majority of Americans are treated by those in power and their pals in the big corporations.

I hope this encourages you, I gave up working as an employee when I was 25 yrs, I'm 55 now and worked for myself without ever needing to find a job. I hope this Patreon channel works out for you. I wish you'd release edited shows on YouTube with the hope to drive subscribers to Patreon, or do exclusives on here that you could cut into a short advert to squeeze into your YouTube vids. But when you're successful and I have no doubt, you should visit Europe and this would give you more content too. A show I'm. pretty addicted to is 'Help! We Bought a Village', this is where normal people find themselves buying an abandoned hamlet or village in Europe and renovating it. This could give you ideas on future projects! Only kidding, but it's an idea.

I dont know how you manage with the working culture in the US. I work 37.5 hrs a week, with zero requirement to do extra hours and agile flexible working, I also get 6 months full pay and 6 months ½ pay sick leave, 33 days annual leave, 8 days national holiday and the option to purchase up to 5 days extra annual leave (which I do as I have 2/3 vacations a year and the leave purchase is very cheap)

Finding someone to replace you if you are sick for a while or take a couple of weeks holiday in the UK is pretty easy for the employer. All they have to do is get an agency worker to fill in. This works mainly for lower skilled work. So for example if they need a delivery driver they would contact an agency who would supply them with someone that can do that type of job. A lot of people sign up to agencies and will often spend a number of weeks doing one type of work and then a few days doing another type of work. Sometimes the work can go on for extended periods of 6 months and more, these would be people who are filling in for someone that has taken paternity leave etc.

Congratulations Jess, so pleased for you 😊🎉

My partner had a stroke last year and I was lucky to be able to take a few days off to be with her at the hospital and home to deal with things - didn't come out of my holiday or sick time. And coincidentally I already had one of those days off already as 'rehabilitation leave' as I have a chronic illness that I go to semi-regular clinics / support groups for and that doesn't come out of my holiday or sick leave either.
