I yawned about 100 times working on this image! >_< It works as a yawn in the scene, but looking at it this way I can't help but think she's channeling Celine Dion.
So, this is the young Magistrate (when she was a lowly court assistant) in her beautiful redesigned version. The ship only has one cabin, so she slept in the cargo hold. What a morning she's about to have!
It's a little weird to call her the "Magistrate" when she's not a Magistrate yet, and there is another older Magistrate in the scene. But her first name is Rhamnusia and that's a bit cumbersome, and besides that it doesn't really match her family name Winterhild - but there's a reason for that. It's a name from the old Empire that preceded the current kingdoms (Istaria and Aquataria, and others). A lot of the nobles and wealthy families use those antiquated names to imply a connection to ancestral nobility - whether there is one or not. Common people usually have folk names, or sometimes more flowery Aquatarian names.
The Winterhild family is not descended from ancient nobility though. They're actually aspirational immigrants. They were a warrior house in Vernixia the "Winter Kingdom" and arrived in Istaria in the recent past as Northlander mercenaries. They've done a lot to earn a legitimate place in the kingdom though, and have pushed their children into important careers (whether they wanted to follow them or not). For example, Rhamnusia's older sister Valdis is the captain of the Holy Knights in the backstory time period, until she's succeeded by Sera Swordred.
Incidentally, if Vernixia doesn't sound like a very Northlander name, it's because all the kingdoms' names are derived from their old Imperial provincial names. That's partly why they have other titles, like the "Sea Kingdom" Aquataria.
(Eshes Nix the formerly blonde and blue-eyed gothic vampire is also descended from Northlanders, fyi)
