Also different in who pays for the wedding - in UK it is 'traditional' that the brides father pays for the wedding feast and transport to the church for the bride, also the brides dress . But now the bride and groom often pay themselves - my oldest daughter and her husband did this. Some really 'modern' couples ask for cash donations towards the wedding and honeymoon.

This is an difficult subject for western guys - I think. I never married a Thai girl but I did marry a Chinese one - many years ago - and I was expected to pay a bride price/dowry - I found it difficult to think why I should - and my bride negotiated hard on my behalf. But I later realised in a society where the aged parents (and they were) with no pension a bride price traditionally supported them in there old age. OK I had many other thoughts about it at the time, and resented it a bit - especially as I had commitments to my own family - but in the end I could afford it, it helped them some and was traditional.
