I'm home
Added 2022-04-09 15:16:46 +0000 UTCI am back home. I have taken covid tests every morning for 5 days, and seem to have escaped LAX unscathed. I passed through several airports on my way to -- and from -- Australia. LAX was, by orders of magnitude, the worst. In the gate area, it was constantly crowded. High school halls after class has let out crowded. For six hours.
The new computer I ordered in January arrived while I was in Australia. I did not have enough brain to deal with it until yesterday.
When I was young, I loved new tech. Loved it.
I still love it now, but now the specter of "what's broken, what's changed, how will things break in entirely new ways?" casts a bit of pall over the process. It's not at the point where I think "I'm never changing anything again", but... there are frustrations. I can expect to spend most of a day moving from one computer to another.
Which was yesterday. This morning was: How do I fix this one system bug (google is helpful). All of my writing apps seem to be functioning, mail seems to be working, Vellum launches properly.
I have no word yet on New Editor, but I'm very said to see the interim editor go - she didn't read or acquire fantasy, but I'd met her a handful of times in person, and I really adored her T_T. I'm hoping to make some sort of contact with the as yet unknown new editor sometime next week.
Finishing the Cast novel gave me most of my brain back. I have reached the midpoint of Hunter's Redoubt. I think. I was a bit late to post the second half of chapter ten because it needed words on the page that ... weren't on the page. Sometimes when writing, the things that are in your head become blurred with the things you've actually written >.<. So some revision was necessary. Because that thing that was obvious to me would not have been obvious to any other reader who doesn't have access to Michelle's brain.
For those who want audiobooks, the one thing I did manage to get done that was not writing was Riven Shield. That's been uploaded and finalized on FindAway, so hopefully that will begin to appear sometime soon.
And because someone in my household mentioned taxes, I am mentioning it here as well: It's tax month. T_T.

I find it hard to have a conversation on Patreon, and have created a WordPress Patreon only blog to make it easier for me to find new comments and respond to them, sometimes at length.
This post is https://michellewest.ca/2022/04/09/im-home/; you should be able to hit Login with Patreon, and should be able to read posts there at the same levels you can read them here.
I'll answer comments here as well if this is your preferred format, but probably not as expansively (which might be a good thing!).
