I want to make a game about how I like to play an RPG. As an actual character, not some generic homeless psycho tramp who kills everything in sight on some epic quest to save the entire planet.
This is a story about the day-to-day life of a heroine.
the game will revolve around two main parts -- your mundane home/work life and questing in the outside world.
Inside cities, you will need to work for your money.
so, where can you afford to live, what are you willing to do for food and how long until you're ready to venture outside again? you'll be managing how much you can bring in and how well you can afford to treat yourself. current planned jobs are blacksmith, guard and tavern wench, along with side activities like fishing, thieving and physical training.
your actions during certain events will effect your local reputation, for better or worse. a high standing will open up better outside quests, while a deviant will have extra 'opportunities' in town.
The harsh outside world is all about survival.
any time you've got the supplies, you can pick a generic quest from a notice board or unique tasks from NPCs. you'll journey there on foot or hire transport, before starting the mission proper.
in the wild, you'll be gathering loot and fighting creatures like any good dungeon crawler.
The combat will be slow and methodical.
Fights are turn-based, using timers. attacks will be standard light/med/heavy moves, along with a 'hold' for maintaining energy. these will be chosen autonomously, based on mood and aggression stats (but, you can still force your choice, at a cost)
your heroine will have to learn and adapt her own fighting style, based on augmenting basic attacks as well as passive skills, and how you choose to manage fatigue.
fights will be long-form, with lasting mortality effects each time you or the enemy are downed. most enemies will become debilitated as they weaken, but beasts may become feral ... or worse..
wounds inflicted on the player will take time to fully heal in town. live > train > quest > recover > repeat. that's the main gameplay loop. hopefully, this setup will give a good balance between action and downtime for character building/roleplay.
More write-ups coming, be sure to comment below on what you're most excited to hear about!
