But Metro is drawing on his southern tradition which is what makes it so awesome. Southern hip hop history here. And Kendrick is rapping on it. Some of the hardest southern beats, and the ground of trap music itself. Metro is grounded in that tradition.

I immediately clocked the Eazy-E sample the first time I listened to ‘Like That’ but I never in a MILLION YEARS woulda known that there was also a BARRY WHITE sample (which also turns out to be used in another 80s sample in a Rodney O & Joe Cooley song). Getting other people’s perspectives on reviews and first reactions adds so much depth to my own personal listening experience, and you’ve consistently been one of the primary reactors I turn to for that enhancement. I know there’ll be plenty of mfs who bitch at you for delaying the song at the start, but I personally think it’s really interesting and your input is part of the reason I frequently tune in.
