Eminem - Recovery - UNCUT REACTION (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)

Eminem season continues with Em's 2010 effort. What did I think? Find out inside....

Difference is you're a fair 'critic'. We all know the whole field has descended into clicks and clickbait. The more outrageous or outraged they are the more engagement they get. Same goes for video game journalism which is well and truly finished.

TyphlosionGang

The thing is he does do the same things he did, it's like MMLP2 Eminem without the substance and worse delivery. I still enjoy some of the tunes he makes today, but his delivery truly seems to have taken a hit

ERIK

Ikr, cause that’s not why people call it a window pane. And window pain isn’t something people say 😂. It’s not the worst bar ever, but it’s overrated a ton.

Colin Krauss

I'm super late to the party as usual, but based off your reaction to Love the Way You Lie this time around, I'm wondering if you ever listened to Love the Way You Lie Part 2? It's Rihanna feat. Eminem and was featured on her album "Loud"

I Am Not Chamari

Bad meets evil is a must!

Luke Ball

MUST CHECK OUT BAD MEETS EVIL PROJECT

James

I do wish he'd put out an album with just like 10 incredible songs sometime. I slightly disagree with your MTBMB assessment in that I really liked side A, but side B just didn't do much for me. Maybe I have 3 or 4 songs from B that could have made it into A, but I was not feeling it. Side A on the other hand, I think it's his best album since the Eminem Show, with Recovery being a close second

Rudra

Agreed. It's one of the best chorus' on the album tbh lol

I honestly think that's Em's biggest issue in his post-Eminem Show career. Overstuffed albums with not enough intersting things. Like the things that work, WORK - he has some of the best written songs in his catalog in some of these later albums, but so much of it is filler. For example, I think if you combined MTBMB Part A and B together, you'd have a legitimately great album. But instead, it's split into two and half of it is just fluff.

Although you’ve reacted to them already, it would be cool to get somewhat of an “updated thoughts” video on his last few albums after having more recently heard the rest of his catalogue front to back

Hunter Waterston

Your realization of the double meaning on Love the Way You Lie is so satisfying to behold

Matt Skinner

one thing i'll say about this is that (and it's a longer post), on the "On Fire" reaction when you talk about how he has these punchlines or lines where you thinking, why is he saying that. Is the exact point of this song and songs to come in the following years is that nobody is trying him, nobody is seriously going after him in the name of competition and so he's just got so many punchlines and why his songs to me are so punch heavy with no weight (bc it's not aimed at anyone) and he's just using it to show off his rapping ability more so than anything. But this style of rapping where it wasn't as crazy technical and it had a solid flow throughout was the last album that i truly enjoyed listening to and rapping along without having to pause to catch what he's saying. He's literally rapping these days just to show how off his skills and how much more technical he can be as opposed to making the same type of songs of old and is why as far as rapping ability, he is the best to ever do it. But combine it with song making and other aspect of making music, it has gotten harder to just want to vibe out and listen to him. With Kamikaze, he slowly started to get back into this sort of Recovery style rapping but still way technical and MTBMB A Side and B Side further evolved that style again but it's not the same. At this point, I only listen to his new music just to hear his rapping abilities, whether the punchline was fire or corny, just hearing how he rhymes and the stupid shit he rhymes is fun to listen to when I got the time. otherwise, 2010-below Eminem is what i'll always go back to when I just want to vibe out and listen. Always enjoy your reactions!

Disappointed you didn’t like the hook on Space Bound. I don’t give a fuck about the lyrics, I just think the melody over that chord progression is beautifully melancholic. Still, love your commentary!!

Matt Skinner

Also that window pane/pain line has to be one of the worst bars in history, I hate that so much

Rudra

This is the album where I felt like Em's voice and tone changed. Felt like he was shouting on every song.

Martin Holmes

Great reaction, can you please do Bad Meets Evil- Hell the Sequel next? It’s the next in his discography and Imo it’s one of his strongest projects and it’s a collab album between Em and Royce that’s an important part of his discography

Jake

yeah untitled is called that because it was a hidden track on the cd, so literally doesn't have a name. was just a fun surprise for people listening to the cd for the first time. it being visible on spotify kinda ruins it tbh

Rhys

Great reaction. Your point about Recovery not being just about trying to recover from drugs and addiction but also Proof's death and thus depression is imo a big part of why some Em fans find Recovery personally special That being said, I can't wait to see your thoughts on MMLP2. It's my favorite post-TES album from Em, and the best in-between of the old Em who speaks from the heart (which you rightfully love) and the new Em who enjoys flaunting his lyricism (which I know you've said you don't prefer over the former, but I feel this album is where his lyricism actually peaked and so it might still be something that you may appreciate) Also I sincerely hope NO ONE has spoiled you about what the opening track Bad Guy is about. Seriously yall, let him go into it blind!

John TQ

The fact you said 25 to Life can't be about a woman because he's treating her way too nice cracked me tf up. Another great reaction.

Matt Peterson

Untitled is a hidden track so I don’t think it ruins the end of the album at all. It was just a fun Bonus on the cd

RINGER 13

hyped for the MMLP2 reaction, definitely his best post-TES work

Oisín Coleman

I think I agree with you that this album isn't necessarily great but it's just so good. That No Love verse is one of my favorite Eminem verses, and Going Through Changes is one of the most powerful songs he's ever written. I think it dips a bit in the second half and he could have probably left a couple songs off it, but I have that feeling with a few of his albums and still like them a lot

Rudra

Jon so powerful he can disappear into thin air at 48:30

Oisín Coleman

Is it Eminem's best album? Definitely not. I feel like it's an enjoyable listen with very few low points though. It's definitely poppier than I think a lot of people were hoping for at the time, but I think it's aged well overall. I love how honest the lyricism on it is. I'm really excited to see your reaction to MMLP2.

Gabe

Yes! I think this & Relapse are my Favorite albums by Eminem

Alex Leonard

Excited to watch this. MMLP 2 is up next which many people consider to be his best album after The Eminem show. And I agree and can’t wait for that reaction

RINGER 13

Yuuuuurrrt
