2022-04-27 18:01:28 +0000 UTCAlso I’m sure you’ve heard it by now but Thieves in the Night is based on a Toni Morisson book called The Bluest Eye. It’s about an 11 year old girl named Pecola who is black and has a horrible life. She wishes that she had blue eyes so that her problems would go away. She gets stepped on by everyone, called ugly for being black by blacks people in her community, impregnated forcefully by her father, beaten by her mother when she tells her. has her baby die, and is reimpregnated (forcefully) by her father again who goes on to run away and die. She ends up delusional thinking that she finally got blue eyes and that this is why no one in her community wants to look at her. In reality, they’re repulsed by the sight of her, what happened to her, and how they were complicit in it. It’s an insanely good song, but coupled with this context, it’s just next level.
