We have some very exciting news to share with all of you!
Do you have room to add ONE more item to your New Year's Resolution list? (PLEASE SAY YES ๐)
At the beginning of the 2023, we will be launching a NEW video series focused on achieving something we've always wanted to: LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE.
You've probably heard us state the following sentence in nearly every one of our BTS reaction videos: "IF ONLY WE KNEW HOW TO SPEAK/READ KOREAN..."
Well, the time has come...and we hope you will be interested in joining us on this journey. We truly believe that the Korean language is far too beautiful and nuanced to fully capture all of its meaning by relying on English translation alone. It's time to learn!
OUR GOAL: To become fluent in Korean by the time BTS returns from their military service in 2025.
HOW WE WILL LEARN:
- We have hired an instructor (Teacher Wonji ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ซ) who we are excited for all of you to meet! She is a brilliant and extremely kind-hearted (baby ARMY?) from South Korea, who now lives in Indonesia. Teacher Wonji will provide us with customized Korean lessons every other week.
- We will analyze BTS songs, lyrics, speeches, etc. to help us learn!
- We will welcome any/all support and tutoring from ARMY patrons who are fluent in Korean!
- We hope to visit South Korea at various points during our journey to put our learning into action!
This video series / learning journey will reside here on Patreon in our $10 "All Access" Tier. ARMY Gold Members and current "All Access" Members will automatically be granted access to this new series. Stay tuned for more details.

I planned to get lessons for Christmas but it wasnโt in the budget. This is the perfect solution and I can easily add the $$ into my budget monthly. Thanks so much for doing this.

That one is a bit easier to start with than the BTS one because it teaches Hangul in depth rather than the short chapter about it in the BTS package. If you are looking for something to help with reading Hangeul, I can also really recommend the free lesson from 90daykorean. I was amazed by how easy it was and how quickly I picked it up. Sadly I can't afford their whole program but I really enjoyed that free lesson. The Talk To Me In Korean website is also a really good resource. You don't even have to be a premium member for the 'Essential Korean' lessons, those are free. I did buy a whole year premium member subscription though because it was 50% off.

It seems like a bit of a process. I'll have to read it a couple more times to fully understand what's required and when. English isn't my native language but I'm fairly fluent in it. It is so amazing that something like this exists. ARMYs are truly incredible! Thank you for mentioning BA here, otherwise I might have never known about it!

No one to talk to so you have no clue if you are doing it right. I know some words and a bit of Hangul but like I said it is hard to learn it by yourself

I swear I said as soon as I heard they were enlisting my goal was to learn Korean by the time they return in 2025 starting this upcoming year and you guys are now helping in that. You will be surprised how many English words are actually just written in hangul XD

I start physio therapy for my arm on the 4th so Iโll have something to do along with it at home. Maybe those of us that speak English can help those that need a little help with that. DO IT! iโve been learning korean as a 3rd language for a year now and itโs my only asian language. itโs the complete opposite of everything iโve ever known with english and spanish. warning that it IS very frustrating at times because, as you said, korean is a very nuanced language and thereโs millions of little tiny things you have to remember. so many different ways of saying one thing. BUT donโt let it discourage you and keep pushing forward! itโs a very fun language to learn, i think youโll really enjoy it! perhaps iโll join the journey once you get started ๐

2022-12-21 22:26:26 +0000 UTCEven though I have been listening to Kpop for a decade, I never really had the time to study it due to being in college, having a child, being a single mother and going through tough times. I just started my journey two years ago little by little whenever I have the time to slip at least 30 mins or an hour. I know very few words but I still need to practice. I do hope, just as you mentioned, that by the time BTS comes back, Iโm at least a little fluent. Also, about two weeks ago, I went to my renovated donut shop close to my house. Little did I know, that the donut lady is from South Korea. I asked her and she said yes, and I started talking to her with my broken Korean. Itโs true what people say about Korean people, they are very kind and supportive of you, even if your korean isnt perfect. She motivated me to practice more and even recommended me to stop by often so I can practice talking to her more often. Itโs intimidating learning it at first, but Iโm sure just like with everything else, all we need it practice practice practice :)

Hopefully by the Spring in 2024 I will be able to understand it, bc Iโm planning to visit South-Korea (and Japan) with my sister!

Their teachers reside in Korea and also have best selling textbooks on how to learn the language. I'm sooo excited for us! To be fluent in korean is a goal i have for myself too. At first i tried to learn korean with the app Duolingo but the only thing my brain saved from this app is that ant is Gae-mi. Now i learn korean ,with my wonderful teacher Jennie, since Dec 2021. I am nowhere near fluent enough to hold a conversation but i am slowly getting better. It will be sometimes frustrating and but also so worth of the time you have to invest. Its a really beautiful language . I am ready ๐ซถ
