This big, beautiful cyclops did not win this month's poll, but I wanted to draw him again anyway. Traditionally, Polyphemus' role in the Odyssey was to eat many of Odysseus' crew and be a challenge to be overcome by getting him drunk and blinding him as he slept. Odysseus and his remaining crew members escaped the cyclops' cave hanging under the bellies of his giant sheep. For this piece I decided to focus on those moments where Odysseus shares his wine with the giant and they talk and laugh together. Who knows? Maybe in this version the handsome sailor reaches the cyclops with his words and charisma and the two part as friends? I've always loved the Odyssey, the Iliad and Greek mythology in general so working on this piece just felt awesome. My new favorite piece of mine to date.
