Lana Del Rey - HONEYMOON - UNCUT REACTION!

Lana Del Rey - HONEYMOON - UNCUT REACTION!

Comments

I love that you gave an honest reaction to this. Even if you didn't particularly like a song, you kept it real. I will say that it is an album that gets better with time. I remember when I heard this when it first came out and I wasn't the biggest fan, but with time it became a favorite of mine. Its been 5 years since this album came out and only a few weeks ago did I realize how great of a song 'The Blackest Day' is. Lana is a brilliant and criminally underrated artist that I love. It warms my heart to see you love her too. I'd love to see you react to this again in a years time or longer and see what songs grew on you. Lana's previous two albums and her EP were all great from the start, but this is an album that really creeps up on you and make s you love it when you least expect it. Also, It's funny that you say 24 sounds like a Bond track. Around the time this came out, Lana was trying to be the voice of the anthem for the new bond movie coming out and I have always felt like this was her trying to prove that she was Bond worthy. When the movie did come out, Adele was chosen to represent the franchise with her song 'Skyfall' which was great, but part of me wishes it was Lana. I also can't wait for you to get into Lana singles released for movies, collabs, and some of her unreleased and pre- BTD era stuff.

Love all her albums but Ultraviolence in particular is one of my all time favourite albums. I know she has a new album due out in September - "Chemtrails Over the Country Club".

What are your thoughts on her statement on insta today? She is being criticized for her feelings all over twitter. There are like 4 hashtags in America trending bashing her

Also, I'm very very looking forward to your unreleased uncut reactions ! I know it isn't your style but I really hope you could react to her music videos after you're done with the albums. They truly are incredible and some of them are like short movies. I watch a lot of LDR reactions online but I've never found any that go in dept with both the music and meaning like you do and it's very satisfying and interesting to watch. I think you would probably catch on a lot of things that the usual react videos channels don't.

Honeymoon isn't my favorite although it does grow on the listener. What's special about it is that it's a nice background album and every time I put it a different song will catch my attention and really resonate with me.

Terrance Loves You is about Bowie’s older brother Terrance who was schizophrenic and died in a mental institution when Bowie’s career was really starting to take off. Honeymoon can be difficult for some people, but it’s easier to understand if you think about HOW it came to be. 1. You have proto Lana who was a teenage alcoholic, who majored in philosophy and poetry, who wandered the streets and lived in a trailer park. Proto Lana went on to release Born to Die. Which was fun but got TONS of shit reviews in the press. People called her an industry plant and a Daddy’s girl who made an album off of his money when in reality she was homeless and hadn’t even spoken to her father in YEARS. The hatred for her was absolutely vitriolic. 2. Tropico/paradise. It was around this time she was infamously quoted in an interview as saying she longed for death. After, the criticism around her reached an absolute fever pitch. Like, how dare she be this vapid rich daddy’s girl and then intimate that shes suicidal?? At a showing of her film Tropico she got on stage and announced her retirement. I remember at the time being worried bc when people start talking about suicide and then drop out of things they enjoy that’s a warning signal, isn’t it? 3. A miracle! No retirement! No death! New album Ultraviolence and it’s great beyond every description. But! By this point she’s not doing interviews anymore really. She’s still obviously struggling with depression. Lou Reed dies the day they were scheduled to record Brooklyn Baby together. In many ways Lana has lived more of the stereotypical rock star life style than her detractors could imagine and she puts that all on display here. But she’s still mainly reviewed as being a sad, derivative, Lolita wannabe, with little talent who makes money off of songs about domestic abuse. 4. Which leads us here! Honeymoon to me is just the sound of her giving up. I think the reason God Knows I Tried hits so many people so hard is that it’s just the sound of her saying goodbye. The way she chants over and over “let there be light” is more like her willing herself to keep living, to keep making music, and then she stretches it out over a whole album. She said that the sound was inspired by the B movies of the 60s and there’s a real Valley of the Dolls feel to it. The next album is definitely more commercial and in a lot of ways is the least loved one. Without spoiling too much though, Lust For Life is kind of interesting in that it sonically and thematically wraps up all the previous albums that came before it, including this. And then after that we’ll get to the Crown Jewel in the Lana discography - NFR.

So glad you came into this one very open minded Jon! I know I had commented on your last video that this album would be slower and more focused on her vocals, but you also really see Lana going through a rough part in her life and she truly expresses it in this album. She made this for her and took her time and makes you have an intentional listen through her songs. To me this album is perfect for when I want to relax or be transported somewhere else. If there's any consolation, she released Lust for Life 2 years later and as a fan you could see that she grew as a person/artist and almost feels like she has healed and come back to have a "Lust for Life" (pardon the pun). I truly appreciate that she stepped out of her comfort zone because her true fans could appreciate the masterpiece she created. :) P.s. React to Young and Beautiful from the Great Gatsby soundtrack!

Im so fucking hyped you’ve been reacting to Lana; Art Deco & The Blackest Day are my favs. Something cool you should check out from this album is if you let Freak play out into Art Deco, it’s one of the smoothest track transitions ever! Lust for Life is gonna have you shook, it’s a pop record. And then Norman Fucking Rockwell is her most critically acclaimed and a lot of fans new fav record 🔥

Love the uncut reaction as usual. I love how spell-binding this album is, puts you in the mood. It looks like Jon is on the verge of tears during God Knows I Tried :)

Jon your lack of water intake in these uncut reactions is concerning .

This is Lana's "loneliest" album. the production and the lyrics to me feel like she's writing a memoir of a period in her life but is not currently living it (as opposed to Ultraviolence where you can HEAR the anger and feelings she's going through. also that last verse in The Blackest Dat that acts like a bridge to the bridge is very underrated in the sense that she broke the fourth wall. to me it feels like she's crying for help on this verse but by saying "it's not one of those phases i'm going through, or just a song, it's not one of them, i'm on my own", she's saying forget Lana Del Rey. I'm not singing about sadness i'm actually LIVING IT and i'm on my own. BRILLIANT if you ask me😭. also 24 to me is one of the best on the album cause it feels like Lana is playing a role. a role of a bond girl. and to reiterate the "loneliest album" idea, this song is calling for action. she's lonely. she wants a crazy fucked up hedonistic lifestyle she sang about in Ride, but she can't live it. Is it cause of fame? is it cuz of her age? Speaking of fame, that idea is supported by the song High By The Beach where she talks about the papp following her around (check Music Video). This album came 3 years after her debut, it's just now that she's adapting to her fame and status. Maybe that's why she's so lonely. her life must've flipped 180 and knowing the Lana she sang about in Paradise and Born to Die and even Ultraviolence. it's doubtful her personality was made for that secluded lifestyle. Not to give out spoilers but her next Era, Lust For Life, from the beginning was her clinging on to her fun youth lifestyle and that's the whole idea behind it and i think it's not a coincidence it came after Honeymoon. 2 years after Honeymoon, she takes a step forward by taking steps backwards to the life she's lived before and away from the funk she was going through and sang about in Honeymoon.

I was so ready for this!

Fuck yes! Can’t wait to hear your input on this album. 💕
