The director of this movie, Rob Reiner, was just stabbed to death by his own son. He also directed the Princess Bride, I think you saw it already.

God, it is a painful reminder of how tragic River's death was from an impulsive use of heroin while partying (at only 23, with a seemingly good career ahead of him) definitely magnifies the tragic feeling of this story's ending.

God, that was a great reaction and film.. It really brings back my childhood. The ending hurts a lot. Hearing about his friends. It feels a little haunting seeing River Phoenix final scene, knowing he passed a few years later.. 🥹

Not sure if anybody commented (probably) yet but River Phoenix (Chris) (RIP) was Joaquin Phoenix's older bro, you saw Joaquin in Signs & The Village.

Some Trivia -
1/Stephen King cried at the test screening. He reportedly left the room emotional. Rob Reiner said King told him it was the best adaptation ever made of his work at that point.
2/ The leech scene really happened to Stephen King
He has said the traumatic leech incident in the story was based on something that happened to him as a kid.

I think < The Big Bang Theory > mostly broke the type casting Will to Wesley Crusher. Maybe because he was playing himself ~
Kiefer Sutherland always reminds me of < Lost Boys > especially with Corey Feldman also staring in this movie \m/

It's so cute how Hella brings out her inner Aegyo.😅
This is such a great movie. It always gives me this melancholic feeling that reminds me of my youth, even though I didn't grow up in the '60s.
And then there's Chris, what a great character! I think everyone has wanted to be as good a friend as Chris at some point in their life but failed, and probably everyone has wished for a friend like him.
The scene where he confesses stealing the milk money and his reaction to the teacher's betrayal is always so touching. It's very hard for a child when their trust in something good, like trust in a teacher's honesty, is shattered, and River Phoenix plays the scene so emotionally.
It's always a bit weird to see Wil Wheaton outside of Star Trek: The Next Generation; he's inextricably linked to Wesley Crusher in my mind.😅
There's always a lot of talk about Stephen King's books all taking place in the same universe. It's not exactly the same, but I think the character Ace is very reminiscent of Henry Bowers from the movie It. Probably just a coincidence, but I still find it interesting.
Kiefer Sutherland, the actor who plays Ace, is a pretty good actor who has starred in many great movies.
I'd like to recommend the movie Flatliners (1990) for a reaction. For me, it's a mystery thriller with horror elements that deals with an interesting topic.
That was an awesome reaction, ladies, as always.💜

Rob Reiner is the director here, and I think he is really great at adapting books into movies.
He directed PRINCESS BRIDE and that is such an adorable movie. I think Chi and Tien watched that, but I'm not sure about Hella.
Rob Reiner also directed another Stephen King adaptation called MISERY, which is definitely a great movie and features such a great villain.

You are very right about targeted audiences nowadays. There is this show called Supernatural that I never watched past the first episode. Everything about that show seemed targeted to a particular audience, it seems to me that the entire show is written with making money as the goal. Totally faithless story in my opinion

Stephen King is hands down my favourite writer, a lot of the movie adaptations fall flat but the novels are fantastic if any of the munchie girls enjoys reading. I can't remember if I enjoyed this film when i watched it years ago so this will be fun! Also the character Ace in this is mentioned in several other King novels and other family members of his, usually as the bad guy or mentioned in jail etc Ace actually served jailtime in Shawshank Prison, ofcourse from King's Shawshank Redemption

Never saw this before, It's alright. "Coming of Age" movies really aren't made today that appeal to EVERYBODY. Today's films tend to target only a certain demographic (like age). Hollywood's more about box office receipts now more than ever. 🫤

Hi Munchies!
First: hello to the princess of light and the shadow queen !! you make a great team.
This is the first time i ever saw ivy crying. Take care of you Ivy.
Thanks for the discovery, i've never heard about this movie, even less that's a king's novel adaptation. And this is not very my kind of movies, but you made it very pleasant.
Thanks for that.
By the way, I don't know if you realized, but if the dad of Teddy (the one who's alsways daring) had really "stormed the beach of Normandy" that mean he was maybe in the same battle you saw in the beginnning of "Saving private ryan". the very first one of the movie.
Thanks again and have a nice day munchies!

The biggest thing I always take away from this movie anymore, it has a sorrow at the end that lingers. But it's compounded by knowing that River Phoenix, the actor who played Chris and easily my favorite character in the movie, died only 7 years after this movie was released, at just 23. Always casts an extra pall over the movie every time I've seen it since. Such a great movie.

Ah yes. Based on Stephen King’s short story “The Body”. In my opinion, one of the best book to movie adaptations. They changed a few things, but it didn’t hurt the movie or basic story. Very curious what the Munchies make of this story.
