X-Men: Dark Phoenix Reaction

X-Men: Dark Phoenix Reaction

Comments

I understand the confusion—the timeline for the X-Men characters is notoriously messy. To clarify, the two versions of Jean Grey's story you're seeing aren't technically "MCU" originals; they belong to the Fox X-Men Universe (Earth-10005), which Marvel Studios recently brought into the MCU's Multiverse canon through movies like Deadpool & Wolverine. The reason there are two different versions of her death and rebirth is due to a timeline reset that happened within that franchise. 1. The Original Timeline (X-Men: The Last Stand, 2006) In the first set of movies, Jean Grey (played by Famke Janssen) sacrifices herself in X2 to save the team from a flood. She "returns" in The Last Stand, but her resurrection is explained as a repressed "Phoenix" personality that was hidden in her mind by Professor X. The Death: Jean loses control and asks Wolverine to kill her to stop the destruction. He stabs her with his claws, and she dies in his arms. The Result: She remained dead until the events of Days of Future Past. 2. The New Timeline (Dark Phoenix, 2019) The movie X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) involved time travel that erased the events of The Last Stand. This created a new "Revised Timeline" where Jean Grey was now a teenager (played by Sophie Turner) in the 1990s. The Death/Rebirth: In Dark Phoenix, Jean is hit by a cosmic solar flare in space, which is revealed to be the actual Phoenix Force (an alien entity, rather than just a split personality). The Continued Life: Instead of being killed by Wolverine, she sacrifices herself to defeat an alien threat and "evolves" into a being of pure energy. The movie ends with her flying through the stars, effectively immortal and living on as the Phoenix. Why this matters for the MCU now Because the MCU is currently in the "Multiverse Saga," they can use both versions. Multiverse Cameos: We saw the "original" Professor X (Patrick Stewart) in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Future Appearances: There are strong rumors and reports that the original Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) may appear in upcoming films like Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars as a "Legacy" character from the original Fox timeline.

Professor X stays in Jean's mind even after she tells him to leave. Who is the bad guy again?

A new Jean Grey has been leaked, Sadie Sink (from Stranger Things) will be the new Jean Grey in a new Spiderman Movie in a Spiderman/x-men kind of crossover......lets see how that works out most Spiderman movies are good.....

King Bob

The X-men will appear in Avengers:Doomsday

One of the reasons why this had so many problems is, because it's supposed to be the Skrull Aliens from Captain Marvel, but because Fox only had the movie rights to X-Men they couldn't use them. Fox only had the movie rights to use Skrulls in a Fantastic Four–related storyline. Marvel Studios (Disney) was already publicly claiming the Skrulls for Captain Marvel (2019). Fox’s planned Skrull-heavy ending directly overlapped with Marvel’s rights and storyline. To avoid a lawsuit or delay, Fox rewrote the aliens as D’Bari.

The day Vietnam celebrates thanksgiving, they should definitly give it a go.

Imperial Mort

Wow. So it really was bad enough to kill a franchise.

M

Damn, I almost couldn't finish this one. First time ever seeing it. I knew it got really bad reviews and they had to completely reshoot a lot of it but wow, it felt like none of the actors even wanted to be there. Some of the most uninteresting dialogue and villains ever. Jean Grey is such a cool character, it's a shame.

Tucci

If you haven't already seen it: PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES It's a great Thanksgiving movie.

Yep, getting the first move playing White has a statistically quantifiable advantage. And besides that, learning chess is a great skill set, since it translates to other areas of life also \m/

Proto Type

In the chess tournaments that's how we used to choose who gets white and who gets black. White always moves first. I didn't realize that I only saw this movie once before.

Piranther

Well said, and I love the first movie, it has a lot of character growth, and it's ending is especially awesome for the theme of the movie.

Hearing that Rocky is next, REALLY got me thinking ~ It's been a HUGE part of American culture through my entire childhood, and I think it's part of the core identity at a DNA Level at this point. It cannot be understated how popular it was, and how powerful the themes are, as they are in direct parallel to what the American Narrative has been promoted to be my entire lifetime. *I'm not here for politics fyi ~ So whether or not it's propaganda or not, is an argument I'm not willing to have. I have my own ideas, and so do you. No one is going to change anyone's mind at this point. So lets just skip past all the noise. Anyway, The idea that in America, you can come from Nothing, and reach the highest peaks of Wealth, Excellence, Fame, etc. IS and was the selling point of the last 150 years. And Rocky is the Beating Heart of that Sentiment. I hope the Munchies enjoy it 🥊

Proto Type

Pacific Rim first just because the girls announced that movie being first when reviewing world war z.

Nhia Vang

Blade? Ghost Rider? Hey why not

Mark W

First time watching this too. Thanks ladies for the reaction. The actor that plays Cyclops is also the star of a Steven Speilsberg movie called READY PLAYER ONE, a must watch. I'm glad you are finally watching Rocky series (1-4), it's a classic!

Milvo

Yes!

Steven

I legit thought Apocalypse was the last X-Men movie. I heard about it here and did some research showing it was a flop, but I just watched it and it was ok. I mean, nothing I’d revisit but I’m glad I watched it with the Munchies anyway.

Jef Etters

So 3 movies announced Pacific Rim, Baby Driver and Rocky. Place your bets on which one actually turns up first.

Imperial Mort

In general, I think that X-Men: The Last Stand, with its rather dark tone, is the better Dark Phoenix story. Plus, the ending with Wolverine and Jean is simply unbeatable. But this movies is better than its reputation. The Dark Phoenix story definitely needed more breathing room and would probably have been better told as a two-parter or trilogy. Everything just happens way too fast, and character development often seems forced. What reason does Jean have to trust the aliens? She's more powerful than Charles, so she should be able to read their minds, and for some reason, she doesn't. She trusts these strangers more than her friends/family and even her boyfriend, which doesn't make any sense to me. Erik and Beast also switch from villains ready to kill to heroes in just a few minutes, which bothers me a bit. I mean, they should have known from the beginning that Raven wouldn't have wanted it this way. But the worst sin of this movie is that they completely neglected Peter/Quicksilver's character. But enough complaining.😅 I like that, even more so than in X-Men: The Last Stand, Charles wasn't shown in only a heroic light. While he did have good intentions in the end, you can also see that he's a bit vain, self-satisfied, and arrogant. This is clearly evident in how Charles treated young Jean. I agree with Chi; she needed proper therapy and help to process the trauma correctly. That would have been the right, albeit difficult, path. Instead, Charles chose a shortcut, perhaps not only to make things easier for Jean but also for himself. In contrast to Charles, Erik has increasingly become a hero in this X-Men universe. Another positive aspect was that Cyclops and Nightcrawler finally got some screen time. I always felt that the older X-Men movies didn't know what to do with them. It almost sounds like the X-Men journey is ending here. I can only say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. But I'm also still hoping that we'll get a Deadpool & Wolverine reaction with Katie and Ivy as a bonus.😉 I'm also looking forward to your Rocky reactions. I hope you watch at least Rocky 1-4; for me, they're the core Rocky movies. That was an awesome reaction, ladies, as always.💜 PS: I'm still hoping the Pacific Rim reaction comes soon. Sorry, I just had to add that.😅

Digitalversager

Hi Munchies thanks for the discovery of the movie and thanks for sharing your x-men's journey with us. If you still want some marvel's hero who aren'' related to the MCU (avengers and cie) or X-men, they're Ghost rider (2 movies) or Blade (3 movie i think). Anyway do what you will enjoy. Have a good time whit your new saga of Rocky ! And Have a nice day!! PS: i really love chi's dress, its very beautifull on her. une belle fleur parmi les fleurs ;)

Gaëtarrow

Chi with the rose top. 🌹

Nhia Vang

Literally forgot this one existed.

Manospondylus

Woot! ~Gonna fly now, flying high now~ 🕊️ 🥊

Ty and Leona

I’m not into blade. FF is ok, and the new 2025 FF movie is AWESOME. Agreed they are all important before Deadpool vs Wolverine but I’m not sure how important since they already watched it. Johnny’s part is pretty big.

Jef Etters

I think everyone will agree with what I'm about to say, you need to watch the Blade trilogy (1998-2004), Fantastic Four (2005) and Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), and Daredevil (2003). They are not from the MCU, they are "legacy" Marvel movies that pre-date the MCU, but are important before Deadpool & Wolverine.
