Elias Gagne headshot sketches

So the main protag of my comic is this guy right here.

Elias Gagne is what's called an ''Offspring''. Offspring refers to the children of human women and draxii progenitors. 9/10 times the unions between draxii and human was non-consensual, as the invading alien forces were trying to out populate humans and force colonization infusion by breeding. This means many children born from this are abandoned or caste aside.

Offspring children are born with many resistances to disease and radiation. They can also breathe in areas where oxygen levels are low and have superb low light vision. I'll have a whole section on their physiology in another post within the month (I'm still fine-tuning things and working out some bumps).

Elias commands a human run military unit called the Waste Dogs. This unit is comprised of offspring only.  These offspring were born on military bases and kept together to form a makeshift clan which makes them a deadly, highly organized force. They're sent into hot zones that are too dangerous for humans. They can commonly be seen among areas of Draxii and human cohabitation, these tend to be poorer, slum filled communities and waystations dotting the wastelands.

If you wanna know more, don't be afraid to ask. I should have a full character sheet up soon for both Brixxyn, Eli, and soon to be Marcus - Eli's cousin and second in command of the Waste Dogs.

I also really suck at picking out why shape or style eye I wanna draw! So that's why his expression looks a little...derpy. This is gonna be something I'll have to draw over and over, so I want it simple but not boring? That's the best way I can describe it.

No, not for dominance but markings tend to resemble their progenitors, so it can be used to identify lineage which can help with family medical history, any genetic markers outside of Draxii. I'm still working out some things with the markings. The Draxii did invade about 45 years prior to the current time of the comic. The war turned cold and into a stalemate after nuclear weapons were fired by human armies. Which not only decimated human populations but changed large parts of the environment. The Draxii were frightened they would lose a viable planet and ordered a ceasefire, forming a truce. This truce was originally thought for the greater good, the Draxii would let the humans settle areas with lower radiation levels and help teraform the areas around some major cities while they aliens could stay in Earth's orbit and annex certain zones. There are still occurrences of fighting on both sides - the truce was installed about five years prior to Eli's birth (Eli is 34 at the start of the comic). Some areas are more chill than others. Human cities, which are full of people that can afford such luxuries don't worry much about the Draxii problem and Draxii colonies are more concerned about their affairs of viability and making sure certain fanatical zealots don't break the truce. In settlements where the races are mixed, it depends. Many have learned to get along with each other but there's still crime on both sides.

Are the markings seen as a sign of dominance, if that's the word for it? As in, different styles have different connotations and ranks? What's the world relationship like between humans and Draxii? Draxii invaded, right? How long ago? Are things pretty chill now or is there still fighting?

Thank you so much! Eli's gone through so many changes since I first sketched him out! I always have a hard time with eyes, lol, like 30% of my time drawing is me fussing over the eyes. The markings on his shoulders are clan markings from his progenitor. Draxii have bio-luminescent scales and this is a trait that's passed. They can help identify family, health, attraction, some family lineages can even change their markings when in a fight to look intimidating. Though, it's not an unheard of thing for humans to get Draxii clan markings tattooed, which is considered highly taboo and rude towards the Draxii.

He's gorgeous! I love his hair and jaw line, really makes him seem like this militaristic, imposing guy. I like the slight rounder shape of his right eye (our left), but it's whatever you find easier! Are those tattoos over his shoulders?
