I feel that sometimes why we hold on to past memories is that one of the things we miss is our state of mind in that memory, which contributed to what we felt mentally and emotionally at that time. The person we were back then may not be the same person we are now. Some people grow mentally and emotionally or grow mentally and not emotionally or neither at all is my opinion. Sorry for the rambling lol great movie and great reaction πππ

In the end, listening to the tapes is like couples therapy for them. They did get back together, they said the tapes prove they would have problems, but they both said "Ok" and accepted each other, problems and all.

this ending emphasizes the bittersweet nature of love and the acceptance of both the good and bad aspects of a relationship, even with the knowledge of potential future heartbreak. Breakups has a process to let go and forget. But success relationships will find a way to link hearts to one string of hope. I was told that every long term relationship the 45, 60 year marriages all have infidelities but they decide to hold on..

This film is written by Charlie Kaufman. His films are always a bit unusual and deeply philosophical. Some other films written by him are BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, ADAPTATION, and I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS.
I feel a lot of times, when the "honeymoon' phase of a relationship is over it can feel like something is wrong, but it's an opportunity to really get to know each other and move to a deeper sort of intimacy.
I also think when we first meet someone we tend to idealize them. For instance, Joel expects Clementine to change his life even though she is very open about being a "fucked up girl".
I do think Joel and Clementine get back together at the end but this time it is not blind romanticism but with the knowledge that it won't be easy but maybe still worth it. However, Katie might ultimately be right because Joel and Clementine aren't a great match. Clementine is reckless/spontaneous and Joel is cautious and avoidant.
I think this is a good movie for couples but definitely not a first date.

Yes, I think they give it another chance, knowing that it might not work out. But there's a vague implication in the final shot, which repeats as the film fades to white, that the relationship is doomed to repeat like it already did. That was always my interpretation at least.

As great as this Jim Carrey movie is, I still think Yes Man, a series of unfortunate events and Fun with dick and Jane are better Jim movies

I always felt like the moment they both forget each other and then immediately find each other the next day, they should give it another try. itβs fate!

I'm sorry, but I agree with Hella and Ivy. They gave it another chance. Absolutely. π―
I've invented a new rating system for movies, Hella's tears. I give this one a 9 out of 10 Hella's tears.
What you miss is the way you felt when you were with that loved person.

It would be good if they saw a John Malkovich movie before that, maybe 'In the Line of Fire' or 'Con Air', etc.

Masterpiece.
You should also check out--- for openers--- "Being John Malkovich," also by the screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, one of the great *mindbender* writers in all of the movies.

That's not my favorite J Carrey movie, that's for sure. But that's ok, I accept that there gonna be variety. I'll just wait for the upload and hope the best. Cheers π
