Goodfellas Reaction

Goodfellas Reaction

Haha, the confused look on these two ladies faces at 1:04.20 when he sings "just smile and pretend to be gay". They did not know that the word used to be innocent and beautiful before it was co-opted lol.

Dave

Another great movie Starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro is "Heat"(1995)

Francisco

Just noticed at 16:59 it shows a Swissair 747 and Korean Air 747...... in 1963. 🤨 Boeing 747 first flight was 1969. 🤓

Manospondylus

I hope they don't skip Casino.

Manospondylus

Henry wasn't free; he was just out on bail. He would still be required to appear in court and prove his innocence. Henry saw the mobsters as heroes probably because, in his neighborhood, they were the heroes. Speaking for myself as a man (much like any stereotype)we aren't all willing to cheat on a significant other. And Kaen did get slapped I heard it all the way in America too.

RichieBIV

The next logical movie to watch after this is Casino

These and many more stories about the New York mafia made national headlines in the US during much of the 1900s. Many worse than what happened in this movie. It really happened. In fact, one real life mobster, who was mentioned in 'Goodfellas' by name, actually started a YouTube channel and talks about his life in it, Michael Franzese. He's easy to find if you're curious. Another notorious gangster, who also became one of the most powerful and infamous in history is Sammy the Bull, who ALSO has a YouTube channel and tells many stories, including murders that he was involved with. He's also quite a storyteller and really brings you into the secret world he was a part of. You guys mentioned that Henry was brainwashed. When you listen to Sammy, it's clear that he absolutely LOVED the lifestyle too. They all did. It was more or less a religion to them. Another great reaction guys! Looking forward to your 'Godfather' reaction! Definitely checkout 'Godfather II' as well. Both are cinematic masterpieces and both are considered amongst the greatest films ever made.

marc five

"Silence" is another great recent film of his too, and it's a nice showcase of Scorsese' non mob movie directing. Highly reccomended

Daigaijinfan

Great stuff! Top shelf reaction as always. Honestly, you can't go wrong with Scorsese' films- they are all worth watching, even the lesser known ones! Hope you two will check out "Casino", and also maybe consider checking out "The Irishman", his most recent mafia movie, which also stars De Niro, Pesci, and even Al Pacino, who you two will remember from "Scarface".

Daigaijinfan

00:19:44….. well done, Munchies 👊🏻 (Real people grind and work) 👏🏻👍🏻

Duncan

66. Always uploading some good movies. Excellent review.

Saints_Madness

You both would be good in the mafia if you ever turn bad. Chi would be the one willing to do mafia jobs to protect the family, and hella would definitely “turn a blind eye” if needed to protect the family lol

fan

They’re much worse there. It makes the Joe Pesci scene in that all the more satisfying! 😬

Duncan

“Gee, Frank…. she fell funny!”

Duncan

Great recommendation! Excellent movie! Leads me on to Ray Winstone’s Boston accent…. Being from where Ray is (and not from Boston) I tend to think that his accent in that is utterly appalling! Can anyone from the States (on the Munchies comments) back up Ray Winstone’s terrible Boston accent in that movie?

Duncan

00:42:10… that’s how it’s done 🙂

Duncan

Restaurant scene…. Chi - “This movie has a lot of ‘one shots’…” Yes! God bless you Chi, and Scorsese!

Duncan

Not necessarily a crime movie but has the same feel - Boogie Nights

Alex Anderson

Another good Martin Scorsese crime film would be The Departed. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio!!!

Daryl

The Movie Munchies Mafia

Grumpy Monk

You two are far too kind to be gangsters.

Gadvance

I somehow find the characters in Casino even more despicable. It's rare for me to root for someone's death in a film that much.

Henry N.

Can’t wait for The Godfather. Make sure to watch Godfather Part 2 as well. And Casino.

Joe Laster

Nope. They're both dead. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Hill https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Burke_(gangster)

Alec Dacyczyn

Blow is so damned good.

Looney

Blow with Jonney Depp and American Made with Tom Cruise are also great movies in this genre

Proto Type

This movie reminds me of a quote: "It shouldn't be illegal, it should be unthinkable". ~ Michael Malice

Proto Type

Amazing reaction. One of the earlier scenes when they are naming everyone at the bar, there is someone named Michael Franzese (actually played by Michael Franzese.) He was actually a person in the mob and up there in ranking. He has a Youtube channel where he talks about that life and even talks about Henry Hill if you two are ever curious.

Looney

Fyi ladies. The movie Casino (1995) is based on actual gangsters and real events and also stars Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci. It is also my favorite Martin Scorsese film.

Manospondylus

Another mob/crime movie that’s based on true events is black mass it stars Johnny Depp

Chris W

Gangster Chi!!

somo777

Can we do My Cousin Vinny again please? I’m missing Joe Pesci…..

Duncan

Gimmie Shelter at the opening of The Departed. Jumping Jack Flash when De Niro arrives in Mean Streets. Scorsese just knows what he’s up to with moviemaking. And I admire that.

Duncan

2:23:42 who did Hella beat up? hahahaha

Thalanoth

Indeed, you get the amount of justice you can afford...

Proto Type

Good frickin fellas. One of my favorite mobster movies. I can't wait to watch this reaction. Thank you Movie Munchies.

Looney

The way Scorsese hits all the musical notes in the final act is utterly impeccable. Monkey Man (Stones), the piano outro to Clapton’s Layla. He never needs a musical score; he just digs out what’s contemporary and appropriate to the movie 👍🏻

Duncan

jimmys real life name was burke. this movie is very old, burke died 1996 in prison (only 6 years after the movie was made), cause of death: cancer. also i disagree thats not man instinct and even if, we are not animals and should be able to overcome our impulses

Someone

Great reaction for a great movie. Henry Hill died in 2012. Karen is still alive.

Brian Tetrick

https://youtu.be/5mEsXz-Bpog?si=2qV8KM64RTf8b5LN 😂 No more politics - ‘this is a happy place’ 🙂

Duncan

You better have some money in the land of the free. haha.

Steven Roy

Right. More like, Good-At-Killing-Fellas.

Steven Roy

The best reactors and one of my favourite movies - you did really well to follow all the dialogue. Great reaction as always!

Wayne

And this is how politics happens in the land of the free 🙂 We’re learning that in Europe! 😂

Duncan

We called each other the good Munchies

Daryl

Home Alone is much scarier if you watch this movie first. Did you recognize the Wet Bandit? haha. In the United States, we have a cash bail system. So, if you are arrested by the police and charged with a crime. You can go before a judge and he/she will set your bail. This is usually set by how likely you are to try to runaway. The only time they won't give you bail if the prosecution can prove you are a genuine threat to public safety. Once you're "out on bail", you can live life normally until you your trial and a jury made up of normal citizens will decide if you are guilty or not. If you're guilty, the judge decides your sentence. If you're innocent, you go home and the government cannot charge you again for the same crime. The problem with this system is that poor people will wait for trial in jail, while people with money go home to wait for trial. In the 1970's, the Italian Mafia had a lot of power in the US, but from 1980's through the 2000's, the FBI really put a lot of them in jail. Of course, they still exist but not like they once did.

Steven Roy

Great reaction, definitely lived up to my expectations! With such fast-paced dialogue filled with lingo and improv you two did amazing keeping up with the twists and turns. Enjoy reading about the real-life mobsters that inspired this and I'm looking forward to the Godfather reaction and hopefully Casino down the line.

Patrick

I agree with Hella. His wife is way better looking than any of his girlfriends.

Manospondylus

R.I.P. Ray Liotta. Ladies, the real Henry Hill died in 2012 from heart disease at the age of 69. I also can't wait for your reaction to The Godfather. In my opinion, both GFI and GFII were the best movies ever made.

TippedDuke

Couldn’t help but watch the first thirty minutes. Utterly impressive reaction so far from the Munchies regarding the lifestyle chosen by the people in this movie 🙂 Correct. These people aren’t meant to be represented as an aspiration; these people are very wrong. 👍🏻

Duncan

Even Hella’s introduction to this… (there are other movies with other dialects). I didn’t think The Long Good Friday would be appropriate for The Munchies…. but I’ll post the descriptions to the slang along the way 😂👍🏻

Duncan

First Scorsese movie for the Munchies! I'm not sure if it's intentional, but with this, they have now seen 15 of the IMDb top 20. The remaining 5 are 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', 'Inception', '12 Angry Men', 'The Godfather' and 'The Godfather Part II'.

S M

another great reaction

matthew

Also worth watching in the gangster genre is Carlito's Way and The Departed.

Milvo

Shine box scene. Can’t wait for the reaction! 😳 It’s more than My Cousin Vinny 😂

Duncan

Before I even watch it - Scorsese nails the end titles with the Sid Vicious version of My Way 😂☺️👏🏻

Duncan

OH MY GOD. Thank you, Munchies! 🙂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This will be a weekend watch!

Duncan

Cannot wait to watch, omg!!!!

Daryl

Ayy awesome, knew it was only a matter of time.

Patrick

Awww hell yeah! Casino is now likely. 😁

Manospondylus

"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a Munchie." -- Henry Hill

Prof. Writhms

Oh great, looking forward to this.

lee eames

Epic drop. Also RIP Ray liotta

Ty and Leona

One of the best gangster movies ever made! Always beware of an empty room.

Nathanial House

As it turns out the fella's were actually not good. Love this movie and can't wait to watch this reaction.

PapaXan

Oh hell yeah. This one should be a bit of a shock. 😂 My favorite gangster movie of all time.
