Chi and Hella are simply the best. Hella; No....NO, Let him breath the air! Let him breath the air !!

Derek Toth

You two should now react to Arsenic and Old Lace. The Shell Oil man's voice was based on Carrie Grant, who is in Arsenic and Old Lace. It is a sort of comedy with horror elements.

Jay Perry

In the USA, in the 1920's, it was against the law to have alcoholic beverages. Just having the wine was against the law. So, organized crime profited greatly from this.

Jay Perry

Another old movie that I’d like to throw in to the mix (if I may?)….. The League Of Gentlemen, 1959. Starring Jack Hawkins, Nigel Patrick, and Richard Attenborough. Just watched it again. A masterclass of post war British cinema comedy 🙂 (edit)…. It’s on YouTube. Should have known that before I purchased it 😂 https://youtu.be/fwBRs9FeIWM?si=3fSyzxfBM6kNIBv_

Duncan

A great classic that I really love is called "Rear Window". It's a suspense movie with Cary Grant and Grace Kelly and it's fantastic

Luis Dawnfinder

A couple of other Marilyn Monroe movies im sure you would enjoy are The Seven Year Itch and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, both show Marilyn at her peak and are pretty funny.

Scottish Smurf

You need to watch some classic American Westerns, the most iconic one being High Noon. This film depicted the ideal American hero of the 1950s. The generation who fought in Vietnam were brought up on movies like this. Much more realistic than the pre-WW2 heroes, it accurately depicted the failings of the political class, the legal system, and religion that we know too well today. It's also the best movie that Gary Cooper ever made. He was the Clint Eastwood of that time.

Mr Jackpots

Thank you ladies, because of you I finally watched a Marilyn Monroe movie, and it was Great! Please watch Rickie Bobby Talladega Nights, it was really a really funny movie starring the guy from Elf.

As you’re clearly a Chaplin fan…. I myself am a big fan of Laurel and Hardy and I’m therefore wondering if you’ve looked at the 2018 movie ‘Stan & Ollie’….? One of my favourite comedians (Steve Coogan, who I managed to meet briefly in 2023 at a book signing) is very good, as is John C Reilly as Oliver Hardy. Worth a look if you like them 👍🏻 (Coogan pretty much just does the Cary Grant accent here). https://youtu.be/_10y2Oh-krM?si=K9_0XXAxMb4MhKVl

Duncan

For further information on the subject, may I suggest The Untouchables (1987)….? Not a movie I’ve mentioned before 👀

Duncan

That’s a coincidence. I’m a 478 year old moustache with a human attached.

Duncan

I'm just 8 years old. I have a medical condition where I was born with a huge mustache.

Steven Roy

If its old films, could you react to Singing in the Rain or Breakfast at Tiffanys

Scogremac

It might have been pointed out already, but this was during the "Prohibition Era" in the United States, 1920 to 1933, where it was illegal to make, sell, or drink alcohol. This led to organized crime making and selling it, along with a type of secret bar called the "speakeasy." You might not remember, but in the movie "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," the main characters hide out in a "rotgut room" inside of the diner, which was from the prohibition era.

Brandon

Grease would be fun. I am sure they would love the music

Angrytoybox

In the movie How did the police know there were witnesses? Tony’s Cary Grant accent is Terrible 😂 The African Queen, the Philadelphia story and monkey business are quite good.

Angrytoybox

My recommendations for old classics are: 12 Angry Men, Chili Chili Bang Bang, Birds. And musicals you should react to: Grease, Les Miserables, Mamma Mia.

Milvo

96er here

What you got here is a group of well-rounded movie lovers. I grew up in the late 80s so this movie is way before my time but I learned to check out and appreciate movies from all eras, not just my own. If you only watch movies from the 2000s and up, you're missing out.

Mr. Writhms

I will again endorse Psycho and North By North West. But specifically Psycho. When you see that with someone who’s not seen it before, it’s special.

Duncan

What about niche classics?

Duncan

You want more classic old films? very good decision: bringing up baby guess who's coming to dinner 12 angry men breakfast at Tiffany's once upon a time in the west psycho rear window north ny Northwest

Jo Black

They’re suppose to cater to me 😭

Daryl

I vote Gone Girl too!!! ^o^

Daryl

I haven't never seen this before. Great job!

Grumpy Monk

They said "classic" not "niche."

Edward Olson

The Court Jester, from the 1950s, is a pretty good classic musical comedy that I haven't seen anyone react to so far. 12 Angry Men...a great courtroom drama from the 1950s. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang from the 1960s...a musical fantasy. Also, Groundhog Day...fantasy comedy from the 1990s...okay, it's not a super-old classic, but it's over thirty years old, and it's definitely a classic. 😁 It was unique and influential...different from anything else that existed at the time.

Kyle MacDougall

My friend, if you’re still alive, working, and moving your knees…. you’re a very important and valuable person. 👏🏻👏🏻

Duncan

You’re not old. Throw that silly cane down 🙂👊🏻

Duncan

Well done. Yes.

Duncan

How dare you! 40 ish, and not a decade older!

Duncan

If you ladies drop another classic comedy, I must suggest "The Nutty Professor" (1963). You would love it!

Mr. Writhms

Old movies are great, you should definitely watch more! I would recommend the following… * Holiday 1938 (Comedy Romance) * It Happened One Night 1934 (Comedy Romance) * Rear Window 1954 (Thriller) * North By Northwest 1959 (Thriller)

fan

In honor of the recently passed David Lynch, you should watch Eraserhead (1977).

Alec Dacyczyn

😂 We tired of cartoons man! Now where's my walking cane

Mark W

I feel like the average age of this Patreon group is 75+ with the movie suggestions I read on a regular basis.

Paul De'Armond

It was a bit of a joke comment regarding romance (the relationship between the three main characters), but nevertheless a recommended movie (a cult classic in the U.K.) You should give it a go. Hand Made Films (so, one of those produced by George Harrison in the 1980s). I’ll have a look at Harold and Maude 👍🏻

Duncan

I haven't seen this. Maybe Harold and Maude could work as well. ahaha

Steven Roy

Withnail & I…..? (curveball).

Duncan

(This is clearly the point where I request some Marx Brothers from The Munchies). Duck Soup, 1933 ❤️

Duncan

Speaking of movie suggestions, I think since Valentines day is coming up, it would be funny if you reacted to a couple of movie where love goes really wrong: Gone Girl, Fatal Attraction, Midsommar (the ultimate break up movie).

Steven Roy

Agreed, although (and I’m not sure if you know this), Grace Kelly wasn’t an active agent in the FBI in 2004 (which is the year the documentary ‘White Chicks’ was released.)

Duncan

Grace Kelly, stars in Rear Window, and even though she is a very famous white chick, she is not in White Chicks (2004), but she has starred in a few of my dreams.

Steven Roy

Saul Bass (legendary) was also involved with Rear Window. And yet, wasn’t recruited for White Chicks (2004). And, in my opinion, that’s a crushing statement on the talent of Saul Bass.

Duncan

It's a great movie! I think ROPE or Rear Window might be my favorite, but also not as good as White Chicks (2004)

Steven Roy

Also, North By Northwest (although I agree it’s not nearly as good as White Chicks (2004).

Duncan

I’m in the ‘Psycho isn’t a horror movie’ camp. I can see why it is considered one, given its influence. For me, it’s an excellent (albeit disturbing) thriller. And also one of the greatest movies ever made. The impact some of the scenes still have (shower, Arbogast stairs, bird cellar) make it still chilling no matter how many times one watches it. An absolute masterclass from Hitchcock.

Duncan

Yes this one didn’t turn up on the Halloween conveyor belt of horror. Very dark, very good. “What have you done to his eyes??”

Duncan

It’s all good. I’ve not watched the Game of Thrones stuff myself. Munchies are eclectic and catering for a mixed bag 🙂

Duncan

BRINGING UP BABY is a really great comedy with Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. ROMAN HOLIDAY is also great. ALFRED HITCHCOCK is a director who is very influential in American Cinema. He's best known for classics like PSYCHO, THE BIRDS, ROPE, REAR WINDOW. This film takes place during prohibition, 1920 - 1933, when alcohol was illegal in the US. Since it was illegal gangsters were involved in the business. People who sold and transported alcohol were called BOOTLEGGERS, because the very original ones hid bottles in their boots. The bars that had the "Funeral" at the beginning and sold alcohol were known as Speakeasies. Because, you had to "speak easy" about them, so the cops wouldn't find them. Having watched this film, a second time, I really see a lot of similarities with White Chicks (2004).

Steven Roy

A lot to go through here! 🙂 I will say that I am a massive Kubrick fan, and your recommendation of Dr Strangelove is backed by myself. One of the greatest movies ever made.

Duncan

Whoever persuaded The Munchies to go for this (Tony Curtis, Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon) needs a medal. Classic comedy, well done! 👏🏻 Whoever persuaded…. The Persuaders….? With Tony Curtis (and, of course, Roger Moore)….. 🤔 https://youtu.be/69ccJitpHGw?si=27OsgT1V05tsvi_i

Duncan

And they won't be covering their faces the whole reaction. I think it would be fun to see them watch it.

puppers

The greatest horror film ever made, in my opinion.

Henry N.

Keep the old movies coming imo

Henry N.

I'm not exactly the biggest fan of these "old" movies. Of course I know the big classics but I don't watch them often.😅 I don't mind the reactions to the classics, even if most of them aren't for me. As long as you keep an eye on the diversity in the reactions. I mean, there are many movie genres that we rarely see reactions to. Like sci-fi movies or horror movies, for example. This week 2 out of 3 Movie reactions (I'm not counting GoT) were classics, which I think is a lot. As I said, keep the reactions varied, then there's something for everyone and everyone should be happy.

Digitalversager

Nobody’s perfect! Except the movie munchies crew of course, great choice in Some Like it Hot, a true classic that has aged well, you asked for recommendations for more classic movies so here is an overly detailed list of great movies made pre 1970; If you want more films like Some Like it Hot, director Billy Wilder made another comedy the following year with Jack Lemmon from Some Like it Hot, it’s called The Apartment (1960) and it’s like my 3rd favorite movie ever, he also directed Sunset Boulevard (1950) which is like a psychological drama and Witness for the Prosecution (1957) is a great legal drama. As usual I will recommend Roman Holiday (1953), 12 Angry Men (1957) and any Alfred Hitchcock movie such as Psycho (1960), Rear Window (1954), North by Northwest (1959), Rope (1948) or The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956). If you want something entirely different how about the silent comedy of Charlie Chaplin, his films hold up surprisingly well today, City Lights (1931) or Modern Times (1936) would be a good place to start or maybe The Great Dictator (1940) which is his first sound film and a satire about an Adolf Hitler type character. Other random great classic movies; Paths of Glory (1957) (War film from the same director as Full Metal Jacket) Seven Samurai (1954) (Classic Japanese samurai epic, director Akira Kurosawa is a huge influence on western cinema and cinema in general, it was remade as a western called The Magnificent Seven(1960) which is also great) The Great Escape (1963) (War film) Lawrence of Arabia (1962) (Adventure epic) Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) (Same director and star as It’s a Wonderful Life) Citizen Kane (1941) (One of the greatest movies ever) The Children’s Hour (1961) (Drama) Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) (War satire comedy, from the director of Full Metal Jacket and The Shining) To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) (Inspiring legal drama) The Italian Job (1969) (Comedy heist movie) Ok that’s enough, hopefully this helps, plenty of variety here so just pick what you’re in the mood for, thanks for the great reactions!

Jonathan Kidman

I'm loving these old movies, please continue with the pre-1986 films!

Dean J

Not a fan of these old movies 😭

Daryl

Can I recommend a movie? "Rosemary's Baby". It's a highly rated movie on metacritic and rotten tomatoes. 96 and 97%

puppers

Ah… a Marilyn Monroe classic. You ladies constantly surprise me with your choices. I’m curious how you will react to Marilyn.
