The Dark and the Wicked deserves a mention also, along with It Follows and one that would leave the ladies traumatized - Evil Dead 2013.

I believe this movie has been remade at least twice. One in 2002 and again in 2013 starring Chloe Grace Moretz.

Yes, it’s not actually meant to be an effigy of Jesus Christ, but it does foreshadow Carrie’s mother’s crucifixion. It’s a representation of a different Christian figure from the bible (note to self - do more research before commenting).

Watched it once, swore never to watch it again, but if Munchies do it I’ll make an exception.

Train To Busan is a rollercoaster ‘popcorn’ horror movie and it has my full backing! Really good fun.

Evil Dead 2 probably needs to be reacted to at some point during October (if I may suggest).
October is going to be a LONG month for The Munchies if it’s all just full-on stressful horror, so some light relief is recommended! 😂

Take the ‘horror movie’ aspect out of ‘Carrie’, and it would still be an excellent movie. Utterly tragic what she has to go through!
Any movie that sticks in your head for a day or two after watching = very good movie.
And THAT jump scare! 👌🏻
As I’m sure most know, the final dream sequence (which only becomes apparent after) was shot in reverse, and then reversed (much like Sadako in The Ring) to give it a slightly ‘off’ quality.
All the warnings were there (suddenly the sky is pitch black at one point, even though it’s daytime). It’s a great sequence.
Plus - the opening credits really do raise some questions about Brian De Palma (although he did do The Untouchables and Scarface so benefit of the doubt).

The eyes were backlit by what was likely a low wattage nitelite -type bulb... with the suffused glow from it being visible in the last closeup while the house is caving in.
Still typical Stephen King creepout christendom weirdness, along with all the little arrows sticking out of the effigy.

Stephen King may be a bit of a pedo. Some questionable things in his books.

Carrie is a classic movie. Its a slow burner though. My recommendations for interesting watchable horror movies would be A Quiet Place, Saw , Conjuring, A train to Busan, Insidious, Lights Out, The Exorcist , IT , 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Others , Poltergeist , Halloween, Cloverfield. If u want a notch higher then I would go with The Descent , The Ring, The Strangers , Hereditary, Rec , VHS 2 , Sinister, Dead Silence, Smile, Hereditary, Annabelle.

This was the first time we saw that Stephen King is an idiot. I suggest John Carpenter or Wes Craven instead. Like Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween.

The jump scare at the end really caught you two off guard.
The movie is definitely a slow burner but a real classic.
There was a new version in 2013 with Chloë Grace Moretz as Carrie which was also very good.
Great reaction as always and I'm looking forward to a spooky October with you ladies.💜

Great reaction. That jump scare at the end really got you both. haha.
Of course, this film is based on the novel by Stephen King. The story goes that he got frustrated and threw the story in the trash, but his wife pulled it out of the trash and encouraged him to continue. The book went on to sell 4 million copies.
In the novel, Carrie not only destroys the prom but the whole town as she sends psychic messages showing everyone it is her destroying the town.
I'm looking forward to more horror movie reactions.

This is such a great movie. Not so fun fact: this movie was filmed in my Hometown in California(Santa Paula) supposedly the house that Carrie lived in the movie is an empty lot now because after the movie came out, people supposedly kept breaking into the house and were doing "evil rituals". Whether it's true or not, the house no longer exists, nothing is built on that property and the house next to it is boarded up

Looks like spooky season is off and running. This story is told in an unusual way, but they toned it down from how it transpired in the book. Good choice of a classic movie ladies!
