Time for "Dracula, Dead and Loving It"

Kris Homeniuk

A 50 year old movie spoofing a 93 year old movie and these ladies enjoyed it with class and grace. The very reason I watch and support them. Thank you!

John Z.

You munchies need to check out There’s Something About Mary. I promise you’ll laugh.

Jim Crawford

So happy to see you watch this, I love this movie it always makes me laugh and Gene Wilder is just amazing along with the other actors and actresses. Mel Brooks is a genius with his skills as a director.

Phoenix911

Maybe for Halloween y'all can react to "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein"

Rico

The original book, Frankenstein, was written by an 18 year old girl (Mary Shelley) in 1818, and is considered one of the greatest and best known works of English literature (and, an easy quick read). The story is beautifully told in near-Shakespearian style. Anyone who studies theater art (Hella?) would enjoy and benefit from its tragic theatrical style. Early Hollywood films showed the monster as unthinking and without speech. This comedy film, ironically, is frequently very true to the characters, high drama, and speeches of the book, some even directly quoting the book (like the readings from his grandfather's papers) and the dramatic soliloquy while being lifted up to the lightening tower. And, the monster, "Oh, Frankenstein, be not equitable to all others and trample upon me alone...I ought to be thy Adam, but I am rather the fallen angel."

Tim

Rear Window is actually a great place to start with Hitchcock. With Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly starring, how could you go wrong?

Steven Roy

I hope you will react to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It stars Gene Wilder who’s also in this movie as Dr. Frankenstein

mundanelotus

Vertigo is one of the greatest films of all time, and in my opinion Hitchcock's best. I'm not sure they would like it that much though. I think they would enjoy Rear Window or Psycho more.

I think the oldest film I've previously mentioned to the ladies was 1944's Arsenic and Old Lace, as it has remained a high favorite of mine ever since my mom introduced it to me in the late 70's. But I've also mentioned to them a few others of my consistently favorite older films memorable since my childhood introductions to them, such as North by Northwest [1959], The Birds [1963], The Blob [1958], To Catch a Thief [1955], Vertigo [1958], The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer [1947], and The Man Who Knew Too Much [1956]. As a child I did like Bringing Up Baby, but it lost much of its earlier appeal for me in later years' viewings. But 1948's Rope is a very good & interesting one that I had forgotten to ever mention to the ladies.

Great reaction ladies, as always.💜 It's almost October, I'd like to suggest doing some kind of horror movie special for October. Maybe one horror movie reaction a week as a countdown to Halloween. And October is also the first birthday of Movie Munchies. You've already reacted to loads of movies, maybe you could celebrate the anniversary with a special video where you look back on the year and share with us what your favorite reactions were. You're doing an awesome job here, keep it up, I love your channel.🙂

Chi, have you already forgotten Mel Brooks from Spaceballs?! As a bit of back story, througout the 1930's Universal Studios released quite a few horror movies based around fictional monsters from suspense novels. These included Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Invisible Man, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon. The film "Young Frankenstein" parodies one of these horror films: Frankenstein. That film was based off of the renown novel by Mary Shelley. In fact, this parody follows many of the same plot points as the orginal 1931 film.

James Hull

I have an autographed copy of the script from this movie!

This film is in black and white because it is trying to be reminiscent of the Universal Monster movies that were made around 1913-1950, featuring mostly Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Wolfman, Dracula, and The Mummy. When the fiance hooks up with the monster in Young Frankenstein, her hair suddenly resembles that of The Bride of Frankenstein from the 1935 film. In school we had to read the original book by Mary Shelly which is considered one of the first science fiction books in Western literature. She was staying with her husband and some other people at a house (all writers) and they had a scary story writing contest. Frankenstein emerged from this contest. In the book, there's a similar scene where the monster comes across a girl by a river, but he actual saves her from drowning and a guy misunderstands and shoots him, so Frankenstein's Monster starts to hate people. But, in the 1931 film, Frankenstein, The Monster throws the little girl in the river. If you want to try some more black and white films, Alfred Hitchcock films are a great choice. Psycho, The Birds, but my personal favorite is ROPE. Another great Hitchcock film is REAR WINDOW but that is in color. I also love the black and white comedy film, BRINGING UP BABY. It's such a fun movie. If you want to watch something similar to Frankenstein but more extreme and over the top, there's alway REANIMATOR. It's a similar premise, a scientist trying to bring back the dead, but it's from 1985 and totally bonkers and gross. if Hella watched this film she would say, "oh my good god" at least three times.

"What one man(ospondylus) can do, another can do."

S_Vive

They can watch the 1971 "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" right now (good to know where all those internet memes come from). But before they watch a parody of Old Westerns they should watch a few of the movies that were being parodied. At minimum "Once Upon a Time in the West" and "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly'.

I have the same struggle as you chi, with names in other languages. In my work I often encounter people from other countries and I try to say their names, but some of them are so different to what I’m used to. If I can’t spell it out with syllables, I just try and move past the names lol

fan

You Girls speak english great, a lot better than I can speak vietnamese anyway, lol

Imperial Mort

Now that you ladies have seen this movie with Gene Wilder, and the ladies at Asian Angels have reacted to Blazing Saddles, I would recommend you watch the movie for which Gene Wilder is most well known. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Noal McInnis

This movie specifically parodies Frankenstein (1931) and it's sequel Bride of Frankenstein (1935), if you want to understand some of the references you can always watch those, they have held up quite well considering those movies are over 90 years old, I prefer Bride of Frankenstein out of the two, if you just want to know the Frankenstein story a little better there is a more recent version called Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994), there have been many adaptations of the original novel over the years, in fact there is a new version coming next year starring Oscar Isaac (Duke Leto Atreides from Dune) and Christoph Waltz (Hans 'The Jew Hunter' Landa in Inglourious Basterds) and directed by Guillermo Del Toro who has done some fantastic movies you should react to, such as The Shape of Water (2017) (A dark fantasy romance, winner of best picture oscar), Pan's Labyrinth (2006) (Dark fairytale fantasy), Blade II (you've already seen the first, the second is better) Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) (Fantasy superhero action), Also I hope that you still cover Blazing Saddles on the main Movie Munchies channel as it is one of my favourite comedies, I will have to check out the Asian Angels reaction as well though, great reaction girls, if you read to the end of this comment thanks!

Jonathan Kidman

Still highly recommend The Edge(1997) survival movie.

Manospondylus

Poor Chi , she is too wholesome to understand some of the dirty humor. Great reactions ladies.

Jozsef Csatajszki

That’s the first time I have ever seen anyone have a jump scare while watching this movie. And it made all three of them jump. 😂

Noal McInnis
