2024-06-03 00:53:34 +0000 UTCThe character Sallah, played by John Rhys-Davies, sang bits of two songs: "I am the monarch of the sea..." and "A British tar is a soaring soul, As free as a mountain bird..." I did not recognize these when I first saw the movie (when it came out, so very long ago), but since then I was in the chorus in the stage play that the songs come from, "H.M.S. PINAFORE". It was written by two very famous (in the late 1800's) playwrights, W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. It was a lot of fun. If interested, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.M.S._Pinafore
