2024-02-25 09:14:43 +0000 UTCIf I haven't previously seen a given movie then I wouldn't normally watch it here for the first viewing, yet I did so with this one since I vaguely remembered having never intended to watch this film after it came out. Apart the obvious incredible skill with marionette and the elaborate dioramas/scaled models, this has got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen... but with its "ridiculousity" coming around full-circle it pushed its way into hilarity I was laughing along anyway.

So many cliches and tired movie tropes are made fun of in this movie. It probably wouldn't surprise you that Stone and Parker are big Monty Python fans :D And like Monty Python, they usually do all the writing, directing, songs and most of the voice-acting themselves. "Freedom costs a buck o'five" A "buck" is slang for a dollar - a "buck o'five" is a kind of unusual way of saying a dollar and five cents. You might hear people say "can I have twenty bucks?", "have you got five bucks?" and so on.

Parody is what the directors Trey Parker and Matt Stone are best known for, very extreme, often gross and uncomfortable parody. But parody only works if there is an element of truth to it (like in this movie). For some stupid reason a lot of Americans listen and believe when actors and athletes spout their opinions on things they know nothing about. By the way, the real actor Alec Baldwin shot and killed the cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, in 2021, while Baldwin was being stupid careless with a gun on a movie set. World peace my ass, Alec.
