Hey everyone,
Big news today.
I wanna get this out of the way first: I misjudged a lot of things and I took a big f**ing L with the whole new game engine / unity setup.
I admit I had no idea it was gonna pose so many issues and after giving this a lot of thought, I decided the benefits are not worth the drawbacks.
I don't want to dwell on this too much, most of what I wrote in my last post (titled 'Important Info') explains my situation with the game perfectly.
So the news, I'm porting Midnight Paradise to Ren'py. Yeah, back to the roots. (It's the same engine that Dreams of Desire is running on)
Luckily, it's still early in the game's life cycle so I can make this decision comfortably. I decided this a few days after the last release and I've been working on it since.
The current narrative is already in Ren'py, all the other systems that has been in the game are close to completion, and I've started working on some of the new scenes for 0.3
As I mentioned before, this is going to be a smaller update, and mainly focus on getting the stability of the gameplay right. And of course my Patreon is paused for 1st of May charges, so I can get everything straight and ready to rock. (I've read your comments on the previous post, thanks guys, it feels good that you have my back)
Honestly, getting back to ren'py a huge weight off my shoulders, I wish I've seen this sooner, but I guess we must learn from our mistakes.
This allows me to tweak everything myself, without needing to rely on anyone else. So if you guys find a bug somewhere, I'm going to be able to fix it in 20 minutes 9 out of 10 times.
I can finally make the little tweaks and adjustments that I wanted to from the start and make this game into what I dreamed it to be, and all around much easier.
There are some features planned I'm not ready to let go even with Ren'py, but I think I found a solution. But this is really something to talk about at a later date.
Anyways, in short: it's a really good thing and I'm happy about my decision of pausing the campaign and getting back to a development environment I'm very comfortable with.
You are probably wondering about release dates.
Well, I'm not giving out one this time. Instead I'll get back to the old 3 posts a week schedule (this time for real) and update you regularly about my progress so you'll be in the know and can see when the release is closing in. ( I guess 4 posts this week since I'm posting the April Special render(s) tomorrow for the Elite tier)
And as always, thank you for the great support. Really, thank you!
