Lay of the Land 0.12.0 The Caves Update

Hey everyone,

The Caves Update is here and brings a whole new layer to the game (literally). It's not just caves however, this updates brings many other new changes, additions, fixes and improvements.

I hope you enjoy the update and thank you all so much for the support :)

Caves

Caves are here. You can find entrances to these labyrinthian caverns dotted around the landscape. They provide easy access to ores and other resources.

Each biome has its own unique cave biome.

Crystal Caves

Found in the Mystical Forest these caves feature large glowing crystals of various vibrant colors.

Lost Caves

Found in the Outback Canyons these sandstone caves feature frequent pockets and pillars of sand/gravel, vines hanging from the ceiling and the dry remnants of long dead vegetation.

Wet Caves

Found in the Mushroom Swamp these caves are filled with roots, vines, frequent pools of water and various plants that have made this damp environment their home.

Metalworking

Metal items such as weapons and tools are now craftable through the use of a Smeltery. The Smeltery is used to melt down metal ore and to cast metal components by pouring the molten metal into moulds of various shapes.

Horses

Rideable horses are now in the game. Now you can traverse the world with your 4 legged companion. They can be found in all biomes except the Volcano and can be tamed/named by feeding them food such as carrots, grass etc. Tamed horses will not despawn or wander very far from where you leave them.

Overhauled Interaction System

The games interaction system has been overhauled. You now physically interact with objects such as campfires, anvils etc to perform actions instead of using a generic UI system.

I have also made usability improvements to the crafting system to reduce the number of actions needed to craft items.

New Music

The game now has all new music. All the music in the game is now fine to use in your videos/streams of the game without being copyright claimed.

Hardware Raytracing

The game now supports the hardware raytracing path for lumen global illumination. This improves the quality of global illumination and can even improve performance over software raytracing in some scenarios on newer GPU's such as Nvidia 40 series or newer.

Hardware Raytracing can of course can be disabled.

I hate to disappoint but the game won't have multiplayer or a redstone like mechanic. That's not really the kind of game I'm making

I would love to see a server with 1000s of people on at a time would this be possible? You know how Minecraft has redstone and slimeblock machines could this game have many machines?

I don't have any plans for the crystals at the moment they're just decorative

Tooley1998

I just joined the patreon and it seems this was the perfect time to hop on. I love the caves' aesthetic, super mysterious. I wonder if there are any plans for the crystals to become a material for weapons construction or anything like that?
