A great opportunity to get your story told!

I have 3 different projects in development hell. Not sure where to go from here and I feel really bad about it. Guy working on Little Sister stopped responding to me and my editor is swamped with depression. Hopefully I'll have something to show by next month

I really like the overall themes of Little Sister. The person who gains the power isn't exactly worthy of it, but isn't someone randomly cruel or destructive. Most of my ideas revolve around alternative versions of that story, with the people gaining the power being people like your stepdaughter or your mother-in-law or some other woman you shouldn't be interested in but who transforms into your ultimate fantasy super woman. Perhaps even one where she isn't actually interested in the protagonist except as a source of more power

I think this doesn’t necessarily need to be a rework of Left Behind, you could just keep three women and a man and build a different starting point, it would work just as good. However, given that the original LB misses Kate’s perspective (or to be precise it mainly adopts Jack’s POV), this could be a good opportunity to make up for it. Even better, it’s a great occasion to explore three different women from the same family, with different roles and different personalities dealing with the situation, while Jack only interacts limitedly, depending on how close he is to each of them.

I just love throwing ideas out there and seeing if anything is of interest. I know you mentioned in a comment to someone else that Left Behind is a story that you seemingly will be going back to again and again. Not sure if you feel that’s a blessing or curse, or both! It has obviously connected with quite a few people and the story is the type that it provides a lot of intriguing alternate storyline options or continuations of existing versions.

If Kate’s sister takes other’s lives once she becomes fully empowered, even if by accident, showing no remorse, and perhaps even goes from lording over Kate to threatening her, and her actions continue to escalate where she maims or kills anyone that doesn’t do what she wants, like perhaps Jack spurs her advances in staying faithful to Kate and she cripples him. At that point the mom will be left with no other choice knowing there is no prison that can hold her, and she’s the only one powerful enough to stop her. It would be an interesting path to go down. Or, in the ensuing fight between them they are using their laser vision against one another and as each of them pour every ounce of their power into beating the other there is a blinding flash and the result leaves them both powerless. The meteor glows again as it sits inside someone’s house. Someone who brought it home because it was interesting to look at and it had pretty stones embedded in it that when looked upon in the light had a unique violet color in them. That person touches the meteor as it glows once again starting the crazy and familiar cycle all over again…

Yes, could be interesting to see two opposite personalities dealing with the same blessings. I guess mother would be a rather peaceful and thoughtful superwoman, given she’s a mother, and only go out of her way to get back at her husband; or maybe being initially inebriated with newfound power and beauty but then come to her senses and decide to use her gift for the greater good. I can see a confrontation with her daughter eventually, but killing her would be going to far imo, I’d rather be interesting in removing her powers and reverting her back to a mere human brat, she would definitely have a strong reaction to the downgrade and probably lose her mind.

We’re really thinking alike here! My thought to include Kate’s sister is to see what the result is when an already attractive stuck-up, selfish and self-centered female also gets this type of power. Does she go completely unhinged and maim or kill if people don’t bend to her will? It could setup an interesting show-down between mother and daughter where the mom realizes her daughter has become a monster, and she’s the only one that can stop her. Maybe after trying to reason with her she comes to the realization that there is only one option left, she has to kill her. Or maybe they try to figure out someway to remove her powers. So many different scenarios are possible.

I like this setting, Kate’s mom gets to become the epitome of beauty and flaunt her perfect body on her unfaithful ex-husband and his mistress.

I love the entire premise of Left Behind also. To start, the 4 characters are interesting and different versions of the story continue to hold my interest, and apparently a lot of others as well, because the theme can be applied to not just these characters, but new ones as well in a multitude of variants. I thought it would be interesting if Kate’s mother and younger, spoiled snobby sister go camping that night with Jack and Kate instead of Carl and Jane. Maybe their father left the mom for a younger and much more fit woman, so they invite the 2 of them along so they can all spend time with the mom to help console her. Having both Kate’s mom as well as the younger sister touch the meteor would be really interesting to see the results. Knowing what happened in the original story makes these variants even more appealing. As the two women ascend and become more and more powerful, Kate and Jack could have a discussion about what Kate would have done if SHE touched the meteor instead of her mom and sister. The discussions created by this, as well as seeing what happens with different characters gaining these powers is very intriguing

I guess in general there's just something about The Lake that keeps bringing me back to it. I think it's that people there don't become obsessed with power and don't make it their only focus: they keep living normal lives / solving the plot mysteries, while still feeling and enjoying the effects of their powers and using them. Would personally love to see some more of that.

Left Behind will be the story I'm fated to keep making alt versions of lol

Hmm, perhaps a retelling of Left Behind, but from a different perspective. It's my favorite story/universe, so I'd be really interested to see the story from Carl/Jane's perspective.

My absolute favourite of yours is Left Behind, and generally speaking any story with a strong component of Beautification and a slow, aware, ascension to a higher status of being. Reason why I enjoyed LB, other than the excellent writing, is the theme of the progressive and inevitable swap of authority in the couple. So, in a similar fashion, I would like to propose the following scenario: A middle aged woman who is bossed around by her ungrateful daughter, slowly ascends to a superior form, causing the latter to grow with envy and desperation as she loses her authority.

Might be unoriginal, but I'd love an alternative good ending to The Lake, where everyone is ok and possibly further enhanced
