Doechii - Alligator Bites Never Heal (Album Reaction/Review)

Doechii - Alligator Bites Never Heal (Album Reaction/Review)

Comments

this project grew on me like crazy since it came out, i like a lot of the songs. my fav is denial is a river bc the title references the iconic wendy video and in the song she talks abt her getting cheating on by a dude with a guy

jay ?

I was screaming it’s a mixtape through my phone 😭but love ur perspective yea abt 3 songs on here have replay value I liked swamp bitches on her last album tho my girl Rico nasty was on there

Rebekah Robinson

IDK I REALLY AM GOING TO GIVE DOECHII TIME. SHE HAS SUCH GREAT POTENTIAL SHE JUST NEEDS TO FIND HER SELF CREATIVELY. SHE NEEDS TO FIND A SWEET SPOT AND IMPROVE ON PRODUCTION BC IT FEEL KIND BORING IN SOMEPARTS , SHE HAS THE BARS AND CREATIVITY ITS JUST UP FOR HER AND HER TEAM TO POLISH HER. I DIDNT REALLY GROOVE WITH THIS ALBUM. I WOULD LIKE FOR DOECHII TO TRY GENRES SIMILLAR TO HER SONG " WHAT IT IS BLOCK BOY" IT HAS SUCH GOOD PRODUCTION VOCAL BARS AND REPLAY VALUE. HOPEFULLY DOECHII CAN FIND HERSELF CREATIVELY

Jorden

If this came out in the 90’s I think it would have been big as it gives that neo soul vibe and the New York rap sound. But the bars are sick as a person who does house music she is giving bars and I’m a newbie rap guy. Maybe she is going to release another project that’s more party . I think that is what we need especially with the single alter ego. I do hear a lot of ny mc’s in her voice styles.

Sir Magnus

Maybe itll be on the deluxe theres rumors shes making one

Josh B

Its actually super funny to me that she did cause on instagram lives she swore up and down there would be no singing

Josh B

I mean she got the attention alot of “old heads” of hip hop with this maybe that was the goal with all the boom bap

Josh B

Tbh, i dont mind her. I already got like 4 songs on my spotify from this album. its decent. But respect ur opinion.

....

Totally get this perspective and this may indeed work out for her for the reasons you detailed. I know there's a target audience for her work so I definitely wish her the best

Dee Shanell

As a female artist on the come up, this is definitely the pivot we need to open the listener's mind and ears when it comes to our side of hip hop. I agree that if she wanted to make a mainstream impact, she'd need to find a balance. I believe, however, that coming out the gate with an album like this will solidify her foundational fanbase. It eliminates the people who are just there for the "hype" and allows people to appreciate her music as SHE sees fit for her career and consumers' needs. That leaves room for organic growth rather than quick notoriety/money. Also, doing this out the gate lets people know that she could take any route at any time of the year, lyrical or club poppin' (based on singles and feats outside of this album lmao) which lessens the blow on the reception of things like this if she were to do the opposite and pop on some "straight bops" first, releasing this type of project later in her career. I hope I worded ts right lmfao, but this was a clean reaction. Always appreciate a real P's take.

0lldsoull

I knew you wasn’t going to like it lol. When I listened to the album even though I thought it was 🔥 from a rap standpoint, but I knew this was not going to align with your music taste. Glad you reacted to it💯

john briscoe

Am I the only one that thinks the mixtape is weak. I mean this mixtape is the definition of Big Sean in the music industry right now. It’s there, good, but won’t hold my attention

Kalen Harley

The is issue tho is that she is all over the place, like she is good at a lot kinda if not similar to how Doja Cat is she just needs to figure out how to balance it out

Zaniya

On Skip she sound like Ari Lennox and Smino

Zaniya

if her goal was to showcase her pen congrats she did that. If she was trying to break into the mainstream with this sound. idk if she did that.

Tati

Dee it’s not a album, it’s actually a mixtape 📼

Isaiah Guzman

yeah it's way too eclectic. i don't mind music being experimental but it has to be well-balanced. that's something I hope Doechii will improve on in her next project. Cause I'd hate to see her talent gone to waste, she's way too talented to be let down by her own material

BNH

Lmao exactly 😂👏🏽

Nashty Doud

Nah facts, if I wanna hear Biggie or Wu Tang, I'ma just listen to them 😂

Dee Shanell

Twerking brain cells 😂 very valid! We have way too much pussy poppin, ho music so I definitely respect the switch up lol

Dee Shanell

Much loveee ❤️

Dee Shanell

Aw thanks Trey, so very sweet of you 🤗 wouldn't be here without all of you guys so you're highly appreciated also! Much love ❤️

Dee Shanell

Ohh ok, good to know! Thanks!

Dee Shanell

Oh yeah Persuasive was my shit! She has so much potential, I really hope she finds her sound and sticks to it. This album was a bit too experimental imo

Dee Shanell

Agreed!

Dee Shanell

Well said, this project felt a bit all over the place which made me mentally check out after a while. I wish she focused on a few different elements instead of trying to incorporate too many

Dee Shanell

I get that, it definitely was more chill relaxing hip hop, so I can see the appeal

Dee Shanell

Thanks! But yeah she definitely is creative, I'll give her that. I just hope she hones in on what she's best at and work on excelling in that area instead of trying to incorporate too many different elements, this project felt a bit all over the place imo. But she's doing something different though so I appreciated that :)

Dee Shanell

Being where hiphop and true artistry is currently, I’m just glad you can at least appreciate it for what it is honestly lol. And the song Catfish you kept has a surprise second verse that’s great ☺️. Also I feel since she’s so much of an all around artist it’s hard to simplify her creativity and it all combines itself. Which basically is what you hinted towards about how Kendrick can still make his music gravitating. Glad you still find some songs you liked ☺️. Wonderful reaction

BruhItsRodrick

I like old hip hop and slow rnb and stuff like that so i didnt mind it but i definitely would get the criticism of there being too much of it

Josh B

I had a good time with the mixtape sounds nice relaxing and good to walk to i do wish she would’ve had more hyped songs that resembled her older EP’s and better production choices but still wasn’t bad its like a 7.5/10 for me very creative and a nice little mixtape Favs:Gtfo,WAIT,Slide,Profit,Bloom,Death roll,Huh,Fireflies and Beverly hills

Josh B

Dee it is mixtape😭

Josh B

Doechii is an insane rapper and lyricist but someone needs to tell her... when it comes to successful music, LESS IS MORE! I've never heard a hit song that was convoluted. In order for a song to have replay value and appeal to as many people as possible, it needs to be somewhat simplistic and palatable. Sure some complex songs can become successful but for the most part, the more simplistic they are the better. Her skills are there but the whole album is built around hip hop pastiche as opposed to pushing the art form forward.

BNH

I agree, this album is not it for me either. I added like 3 or 4 songs. I hope this is a tryout, because some of her other songs are bops. Her song "Girls" is what put me on her radar. Crazy, Bitch I'm Nice, Yucky Blucky Fruitcake are some of her best works in my opinion. Hope her next one is more lively.

Muffinz Okuurr

I agree with everyone, this album was really disappointing. For me it was too artsy. I love her songs yucky blucky fruitcake, persuassive, and pms.

Jai

Death row reminded me so much of Doja’s Skull and Bones

Meli

Overall i liked 70% of this album. I like the oldschool vibe the beginning of the album had, the last 4 songs are a miss for me. And i like her creativity as well. This album reminded me a lot of Scarlett from Doja, the chip on the shoulder theme and the rap heavy songs, storytelling. But i thought the album was very long… the songs i liked were so short🥲 I appreciate the effort for sure and I’m excited to hear and see more from her🙌🏾

Meli

Her and doja on tour together was everything

Eli

It must be hard for new artist these days to strike a balance

Ken Perkins

I want her to succeed sooo bad, this makes me sad!! We could have generational music from her, PLEASE doechii LOCK IN PLEASE whyyy!

Josh

Hi Dee! Just letting you know that if you click the little play icon in the top bar beside the battery icon you can pause, skip or backtrack a song without having to switch back and forth between pages. Hope this helps :)

tiok16 __

yesss doechii is from tampa fl so i think this whole swamp sess is very on brand for her but i dunno, i rlly want better for my good sis

FRANK ocean supremacy

Enjoyed the reaction Dee, I thought this was a really solid but definitely for fans of more traditional hip hop. I hope more of these female rappers would take risks away from pop rap and 304 rap lmao, we have enough of that repetition. I miss artists like this with substance and more than two twerking brain cells💀

Key

This album is definitely old school influenced. I love old school rap, but not a fan when new school artists are doing it. Let’s be more innovative and modern here people 😂😩

Nashty Doud

10000% right, her hooks are extremely weak. They’re the most important part of the song behind the beat, and no matter how great she is rapping them hooks aren’t catchy enough to grab you 😩

Nashty Doud

Been watching you for a few years now Dee I truly love you thank you for making my days better🤍

Wendy Williams

doechii said this was a mixtape btw

Swaeee

Hey Dee this doesn't have much to do with this reaction but with more regards to yesterday's video, but I really appreciate the content you put on here because it is different from the content you put on youtube. Like most reactors who have Patreon just use it for unedited versions of content they already post on youtube, so it feels pointless to get theirs, whereas you have totally different content over here. We rly appreciate the hard work you put in to make it a nice lil community over here, and that's why you will always be the best to ever do it 🙏🏼

Trey

Indeed the legend she is

Immortal B

Pussy pussy ass ass dick dick" - Nick minaj on a random insta live

StonePrime

GIRLS IS MY SHITTTTTT. THE FACT THAT WAS HER FIRST SINGLE EVER IS CRAZYYYYY

StonePrime

NO MORE ADS GOD BLESS 🙌🙌 and yeah this mixtape was a bit disappointing imo i love bullfrog and catfish tho

Tiki

Thank you Dee for listening to this!! I honestly didn't know who Doechii was before listening to this with you and I liked the sound of most of these songs since it was so different from the other rap girls.

RPL

unpopular opinion: i think that sometimes artists like doechii (meaning artists who are very creative and lyrical) don't know when to stop and take it too far to the point where the actual intended message of the song is overshadowed by it. for example, denial is a river was actually a dope ass song to me because of the theatrical way she conveyed having a real deep conversation with a friend/therapist, but when she started doing all of that breathing shit at the end i was over the song and never wanted go hear it again. The talent and uniqueness is appreciated, but she must learn to balance it out. Damn chile, that was a lot to type 😮‍💨😂

shamir

I listened to this yesterday and was very bored too. Nissan Altima and GTFO are the only songs I kept. I think she should stick to doing her Azealia Banks cosplay or ghost writing for the other girls.

Chino5150

Also we love you too Dee ❤️ The real ones will always have your back

Vanessa Chang

100% agree with this reaction this album was dated…. She did alot of singing because her most popular song was singing “what it is boy”

Immortal B

I *wanted to* feel like this album was refreshing overall, like FINALLY a rap girl is showing out with the creativity and lyricism and artistry. But I agree on the album being lengthy like girl... I don't have the patience for almost 20 songs in a body of work. Coulda conveyed your story in fewer songs. I didn't really mind her singing; I thought it sounded good but I thought there was too much of that considering that she's a rap girl. Compared to Megan, Nicki, Cardi, Latto etc. this was way more appealing. Doechii kinda sounds likes a mix of Doja and Kendrick to me and I feel like her MV for Catfish was giving really similar vibes to Kendrick's MV for Not Like Us. The color schemes and scenery and the editing looked VERY similar between the two. And I really loved her MV for Bullfrog; that honestly was my favorite aspect of this album. But yeah I was really vibing with the album at the start but as it progressed I was like... Where TF is this going bc I'm getting so bored and tired smh so I have mixed feelings about it honestly

Vanessa Chang

I just reacted to this yesterday! Out of the other albums, I think doechi has it rn. I'm excited to see your reaction 😅

J AS

Its so funny you said Azealia Banks because thats the #1 person she gets compared to, they’ve had beef and all people want is for them to collab

Immortal B

This really gave me Scarlet vibes. I really felt like hers and Dojas albums were really similar. I DO feel Doechii released an ALBUM, the lyricism, creativity, production compared to the rest of these girls is insane. It was nice not hearing pussy pussy pussy dick dick dick dick LOL!

Immortal B

I appreciated this EP personally but I get your feedback. To me it, it looks like she's still trying to find her lane/sound. Also, I don't think you should say you ain't a real hip-hop head lol. To me (at least through your videos) you are as legitimate as anybody when it comes to this thing we call hip-hop

annoyedsquire

doja and doechii are very similar artists and theyre friends too

futuregoat348

this is so kendrick now that i think ab it

futuregoat348

i like this alot i like the chill vibes

futuregoat348

this album gives me halloween vibes

futuregoat348

Ngl I agree with you doechii to me is a hit or miss

Eric

I like some of Doechii’s music, I never liked a whole project from her, and I got reminded why with this album, I was falling asleep to this damn album multiple times can’t lie

Prince Of Jades

Skipping the end of Fireflies is WILDDD. I get it though, pacing is definitely an area where Doechii can improve for the future. I finished the album in 3 separate sittings.

Diego Reyes

she seems to have the opposite of JT’s problem, where some of JT’s production is pretty good, but her bars… and Doechii has bars but her production… lol yk? at least, in my opinion

Prince Of Jades

NOT “this on YouTube” I said the same thing 😂😂😂

Eric

Why does this sound like Doja Cat wtf?

Qua

LOVE TOU TOO DEE!!! We just here for a good time

Eric

I mean I guess that's good to know, but still doesn't change much for me lol this actually makes me not want to hear her album whenever it drops. Highly doubt I'll give it a chance, she gave me nothing with this

Dee Shanell

Facts, definitely giving the same boring sound

Dee Shanell

🤣

Dee Shanell

😂😂😂😂 over some Wu Tang beats lmao no deadass! I definitely heard the Kendrick, Nicki & Doja influence also. Seems like she's still trying to discover her own sound

Dee Shanell

Lmao all these rappers irritate me trying to sing, male or female. Except Drake!

Dee Shanell

Hey fam, this is not an album! Doechii has promoted this project as a Mixtape many times. Just some insight I think could change someones perception of the project.

Mister Fearce

dee this is a mixtape 😂😂. and i agree usually most artist like her can keep me captivated through an album but i feel like it was too much of one sound and the sound was boring. ik doechii can put a song together cuz crazy and girls were my faves too. i just feel like she’s tryna do the underground work to get that hip hop approval!

Nich Enzo

Death roll reminds me of skull and bones and love life from doja idk why

Raul Alvarez

I actually like her singing lol

Ktri

"she clearly likes to sing" lmfao

Brigette Majake

Idk this album feels like Doja Cat hopped on some Wu Tang beats in her pre fame days This album is lacking something but idk what it is. Edit: She sounds like Doja imitating a bunch of artists(Kendrick, 09 Nicki, Ari Lennox, etc) over a bunch of Wu Tang beats 😂😂 Thats crazy asl, its like she has no identity so we can know its her

lilrickyfrm51

Yh totally !

lissy

Yea really love this album we all listen to different reasons, we have different ears so to each their own. But I absolutely loved it.

Satsui

Her and doja got a similar sound

Raycapalott Official

Honestly the first album this year from a rap girl that im interested in 😩 so i think shes done smth right w this one

lissy

“OOOOO, Just in case you neeeed meee….. I DoNt MIIiINd”

Breon Jordan

One thing about Dee, she finna get irritated when a female rapper starts singing lmfao.

Gemi

You’re not alone *Michael Jackson Voice* I have to be in the mood for it. It’ll get played again.. at some point

Breon Jordan

😂

Dee Shanell

Agreed!

Dee Shanell

Perfectly stated. I'm def not a student of rap, so I get bored with this sound very quickly lol

Dee Shanell

My sentiment exactly. She can be niche but she still has to deliver interesting music, lyrical or not. People usually complain about the less gifted artists getting more shine than their talented counterparts, but the more talented artists need to also make acoustically appealing songs 🤷🏾‍♀️ we like what we like. And agreed, I like that Ice & Gunna song too lol

Dee Shanell

I like the album, but I'm disappointed she didn't put an alter ego with JT since it did bring the energy the album needed and fit the swamp aesthetic. Overall, the album was pretty good, and I loved how different it was from the other rap albums released this year.

RedWolf

I was expecting more NISSAN ALTIMA, Crazy type tracks but this one didn’t disappoint. I like rappity-rap rappers so this hit for me. She’s calling it a mixtape so I look forward to what her actual LP sounds like.

Jazz Rivers

Yeah she has skill clearly. U can have that lyrical vibe but that production is so mid. It’s like rappers go all in on either lyrics or rely heavy on production and appearance. What happened to the balance lmao. I heard the first couple songs in the car yesterday and I didn’t care lmao. But heard the whole thing from this video. Saved wait but yeah bored lmao

Adam

Ok well at least I know I’m not crazy lol. I mean she has talent but……yea.

Maurice H

The first half of the project started off good, then it just got super repetitive towards the end. Her lyrics are fire, but the production definitely dragged, and I agree with you Dee, she needs to work on her hooks. And it’s like you said about Dot and Cole. They’ve been successful for so long cus they found the right balance between lyrical and appealing. Not a lot of hip hop artists have that skill, so hopefully she can find that balance for her debut album.

Paul Reyes

Doja and Doechii are actually pretty cool, when Doja went on tour, doechii opened up for her a few shows. And they have a leaked song out that was supposed to be on Scarlet Claude.

Deccah K

Super talented but I agree the album was way too long. The 2nd half was a chop besides "GTFO".

Jaylen

She had me at the first part, ngl. But yea, unfortunately the appeal isn't consistent

Brandon Chevene Johnson

she's a very creative artist but her music isn't rlly for everyone but she said this is just a mixtape so maybe before she drops an album she will polish up her sound.

Relo

Honestly, it feels like Coven Music Session Vol 2

Breon Jordan

Like Dee said, the SKILL is definitely there. I am a fan of the rappity rap men and women and LOVE someone who can give diversity. She’s the same person that gave us “Something Real” then later gave “Swamp Bitches” with Rico Nasty.. Great for students of rap but unfortunately not digestible enough for the masses. I’m sure she has another “What It Is” in there somewhere in the tuck.

Breon Jordan

I'm conflicted on Doechii. She's very talented and this album is honestly a work of art. I don't necessarily mind the fact she doesn't fit into the mainstream rap girl space. I'd honestly say she's more talented than 90% of them and nothing wrong with being a little niche especially if you do that niche well. However... I agree it has no replay value for me and if she can find a great balance she could and probably would be the "rap princess" Ice Spice is 100% less talented but her song with gunna is super catchy and stuck with me for a little on repeat.

Supreme Victory

Listen call me crazy..Top 10 album of 2024.

LaLa💙

So excited for this🥰 but in my opinion this album didn’t do it for me because it’s just to sad/introspective. I appreciate her honesty but I’m just not in that state of mind anymore and don’t wanna go back to it, she’s very talented though🤷🏾
