Spaghetti was actually the song I hated instantly and consistently disliked on every listen. Daughter was my favorite. Desert Eagle is underrated imo. Ya Ya sounds like it'd be amazing in concert and mv. I did like 2H2H and Amen tho. I literally felt like saying amen when it finished playing. It's an interesting album to me because so many songs have parts that slap and sometimes don't land where you expect, bc she switches between styles mid song and you may not like the style she moves to. I think that makes it hard to like some songs. Sure, it smoothes back to land again but by then, you can't get into the song again. I feel like you were experiencing that. I can't be sure bc you are you. I definitely had that experience and came out feeling differently every time I played the album. Songs like Daughter, 2 Most Wanted, Levi Jeans, Texas Hold Em, Bodyguard, 16 Carriages, Blackbird, and Jolene didn't have that. They were straight shooters and less experimental. Still downloaded 8 songs tho 😂...

It always feels like a complete body of work. This one in particular, I don’t fully know how I feel about it. There’s some clear stand outs to me, spaghetti got me feeling spaghetto, I love 16 carriages, bodyguard, desert eagle, river dance, ya ya, just for fun, and enjoyed some others. Renaissance definitely grew on me and I think many songs here have the potential to do the same, if not, I’m not too bothered because I still respect this as a complete piece of art. She was hoping Beyoncé would cover it like Whitney covered her other song “I will always love you”. That being said, I love the arrangement and vocals but I don’t know why she felt the need to rewrite the lyrics like that. The original is a very moving confession of the insecurity of a woman who begs this “Jolene” to not take her man and almost admires her for her charm and beauty. Doesn’t maybe sound like the best thing, but it works because of Dolly really sells that pleading. Weird to redo that song and make it into hating on the “Jolene” or “Becky with the good hair” lol. The good thing about the “Becky with the good hair” reference in Lemonade was how it was almost a passing mention of the woman which gave further insight to the parallels of the societal look at black women in a song mostly aimed at the man in the cheating situation. This cover was just overall a weird execution but I think it’s cool that she did Dolly’s song and that Dolly intro’d it. Also, Willie Nelson is a huge country legend who has actually been outspoken about country music’s black roots.
