A logical sequence. Light must "remove" Rem before he can "remove" Misa without retaliation.

2024-10-24 07:34:30 +0000 UTCThe directing of this episode is wild in the Anime, it's a beautiful episode. But due to having all this silence, they actually leave out a lot of internal monologue that is in the manga from L, Light and even Rem. There is actually a whole page where Rem concludes there is no point in killing Light anymore, it wouldn't save Misa, it would leave Misa without an ally and she would be caught eventually and also give up on her life from losing him. Another page where Light explains, because Misa didn't remember L's name it will take a long time to kill him, because he won't show his face again to Misa. That's why he had to manipulate Rem to do it. The whole final scene actually happens after they discover Kira is killing again, there are no days passing in between, L on the spot comes up with the idea to have someone use the notebook, so Rem has to act quick. The whole concept of set lifespans is washy, but there is a rule that states, 'killing a human who has influence over another person's life can lengthen their lifespan, but if a Shinigami intentionally does that they will die', so even if Misa's lifespan is already set in stone, it might be due to dying in prison after being caught, so killing L would change her circumstances and lengthen her life for example, which is why Rem died. Also while L dies looking at Lights stank face he thinks "I knew it, I wasn't wrong, but...". Going forward with rest of the series, the manga gets really wordy and a lot more things start to get omitted towards the end of the anime.
