For my part, I didn't like the sister scene either, but it didn't keep me from crying when he met his mother. Like someone else mentioned, the contrast of everyone else doubting Thorfinn against his mother recognizing him at a glance instantly broke me.

2024-09-07 19:10:40 +0000 UTCYeah we'll have to disagree here I'm afraid. To me there is no reunion more apt than siblings fighting amongst eachother. It just resonated with me, I imagined my brother doing the same to me and I just burst out laughing. Something about this kind of wholesomeness is just so satisfying, I guess because it's exactly what Thorfinn missed. Having the most sibling-y moment with his sister was just perfect I thought. Also, you kept just calling her a tsundere. Maybe you just misused the term, but the reason for her reaction was that she was angry someone, in her mind, pretended to be her brother. Obviously, if after 16 years of however long it was someone strolled up and called themselves your brother, you'd be upset too. That's not tsundere behavior, that's just a normal reaction.

But having this deep topic and putting in cartoonish bullcrap breaking all care or immersion there is, the director really shat the bed in this one for me. Would be as if in aot the cellar is opened and instead if a photo you get a jack-in-the box and cartoon eren reaction. Just personal opinion though

Did not work at all for me. Really sad that s2 got robbend its great enotional finale. Bit if you enjoyed it, i am happy it worked for some people :)

I think it’s clever how they approached this actually, from a historical realism perspective. Like fake Thorfinn said, he gets to see his family after wondering for over a decade, it’s nothing short of a miracle that Thorfinn isn’t dead or the village didn’t get raided. They’ve probably assumed he died for over ten years. Yilvas reaction made me realize just how unlikely this reunion would have actually been

2024-09-06 18:01:29 +0000 UTCThey didn't change it because it's wholesome. You can disagree, but s2 has had barely any comedy at all, especially when it related to Thorfinn. It was, at least to me, emotionally exhausting - in a good way, but still. I really needed the brevity to make this moment stick. It makes it so much more relatable to see this being how it played out. I have plenty of people close to me who'd react the same exact way as Ylva did if I were to disappear so long without ever attempting to contact them, and I'm sure most other people do as well. That aside, all of this serves to make the actual reunion with Helga more impactful. The contrast between all these people not recognizing him and the shenanigans, and a mother just knowing who her son is, was so extremely heartwarming to me. It's such a ubiquitous human experience that I'm surprised a minority reacted to this scene like this at all tbh. I think it was perfect, and it's still one of my favorite reunion scenes in anime.

2024-09-06 16:25:33 +0000 UTCI agree with you 100% this is the worst reunion I've ever seen in anime, even the comic relief wasn't funny at all, also in this season some comic relief moments didn't fit the scenes so the studio changed them or cut them completely I don't understand why they didn't do the same for the last episode.
