depends on how much you catch on to if you like overanalyzing stuff then a magical dream about an altenrate reality kindof spoils that there's some form of tiemtravel involvedi n the story which kinda takes away from the kruger reveal

HAL

34:00 they might well remember each wrold in the other, thinking it was a dream after all falco woke up in 4x1 thinking he had just been flying around with swords

HAL

26:55 symbolically it could be the opposite her humanity which she would have to kill to keep up with eren

HAL

22:40 well she can control eldians so both bertholt and the kidnappers who came to mikasas house or in this case probably just went off track and ran into wolves instead

HAL

11:55 falco?

HAL

2:40 a creature that tends to bite off its mates head... meanwhile butterflies, due to the popcultural reception of "the butterfly effect" are sometimes seen as a symbol for messing around with timetravel... heavy foreshadowing in just that image

HAL

Don't you love how so many future events are foreshadowed in AoT. How so many clues are there in plain sight but only when we are looking back at the story do we realize Isayama was not hiding anything from us at all. We were just too wrapped up in the emotions of the characters, and our own, to notice what was right in front of us. In my opinion this type of story telling mirrors what often happens to us in life. In other words, we get wrapped up in our own issues that we often become blind to the truth of the world staring staring us in the face.

That's true 💯 I hate it!

I think he intended or at least the color of butterfly looks like paths because we see paths in season 2 in Ymir-jaw titan back story, but yeah, we don't know that it's paths, for us it was just desert at night 😅 we could not connect it to paths, where everything is connected. I think only time we see strange pictures of future when Eren woke up under the tree. I think in anime they removed "see you later" (what is manga) in the beginning of first episode to not questioning timeline + Isayama was working close with anime production since he wanted to change some things. For example in first and second episode S1 there's a strange silhouette that is not in manga that could connect to Eren and Zeke timetravel 👀 can't wait for rewatching it together

I think it's moreso a case of "if you know people call it a spoiler it's absolutely a spoiler, but if you haven't heard that then it's safe to watch." As soon as people start calling this ova spoiler heavy you can infer a lot about the ending by watching it, whereas it's just a bit strange if you're fully blind.

I also agree it’s not a spoiler. Like you said, many people think mentioning “You cannot stop Eren’s death” is a spoiler. But I feel like it’s so common in fantasy / literature to have prophesies about the protagonist that are either twisted or outright flipped around by the end, it really doesn’t mean much. It’s not like before Season 4 was finished the entire fanbase was like, “Welp, we know Eren dies because the Mirror Man said so” haha

Kevin

I still believe this is not spoiler. Nobody knows about paths, timetravel, only connection is to butterfly effect. Only thing what pissing off people is Eren's death I guess 😅 I think some people still don't want to accept it. Maybe Ymir should poke their head too 😂.

I like your interpretation of butterfly color with Ymir, color of Paths, I actually never connected it even if butterfly associated with "butterfly effect" - I am surprised now how it's obvious 😂 Ymir saw beauty, when she was hunter she looked at flower. Another think I like - Ymir created paths to escape death because she was still in love/slave to Fritz, and Mikasa was creating alternative reality to escape Eren's death, but as she/mirror man said she needs to become stronger(accept Eren's death) and return to real world, what Ymir couldn't do. I agree that Ymir was helping her somehow overcome Eren's death. When Mikasa sees cabin scene I think she escaped reality as she always did since she didn't want to kill Eren and see again his death and again finally accepting it. And since Eren with founding titan was able to test possible outcomes of his actions - it only way they were able to meet and talk before she killed him because he can't erase her memories. When mirror man flashes it flashes to Mikasa silhouette, i agree with you that the small her is unconscious that can't accept Eren's death and her talking truth is conscious that trying to help her to return back to real world. And become stronger means her conscious winning unconscious.

basically, timetravel/alternate timelines spoiled

HAL

The last time I watched this episode was well before the introduction of Ymir, so I never made the connection that this episode might be related to Ymir. I don't know if Isayama had a role in writing this episode, but I still think it wasn't written with Ymir's lore in mind because the episode felt intentionally vague. However, it still ties into Ymir's reveal nicely now that I think of it.

Loved hearing your interpretations of this episode. As you can imagine, this episode has the most varied interpretations on exactly what’s happening. I’ve seen many agree with you that it’s Ymir behind this long dream, especially since the last episode was released. I know there’s a camp out there as well that believes it’s actually future Eren showing her this one as a way to start preparing her mind with the thought of killing him. I’m not sure if that theory has died out though since the Ymir/Mikasa headache reveal.
