Attack on Titan 4x21

My mind is gone :D Sorry for the small confusion, at least I got it later :D

Attack on Titan 4x21

Comments

Ymir didn't know she had a choice. She had been a slave her entire life, and Eren was the first person to ever offer her a choice. If I was Ymir I'd hate all of humanity and want to destroy everything too. There comes a point with the most severe depression that your existence is so constantly filled with agony that you want everything to disappear, because the pain feels so inescapable that you're helpless with its anger and want it to all be destroyed until there's nothing left.

The creature is based on the extinct animal "Hallucigenia" which confused scientists for many years because they couldn't figure out how it functioned or even which way was "up" for it.

By this point all Eldians are probably related to Ymir through two thousand years of interbreeding. It's interesting to note though that Eren chooses to address them as "Subjects of Ymir" instead of "Eldians".

Lucid

I mean she's still the one technically in power but he gets her to rethink and choose to go with him this time and at least judging frokm her eyes it looks like thats her striking out for freedom the eye shading is wild in aot

HAL

there's over 7300km of walls, they can do a lot of damage and its HIS dicatatorship - argued for with "freedom" - as usual

HAL

46:30 he has seen violence on paradis when mikasa got kidnapped that was people from paradis murdering and kidnapping people from paradis and hten getting murdered by a boy from paradis long before bertholt kicked in the door

HAL

45:30 they're voluntarily in agreement, thats why the whole thing works thats why she finally got visible eyes

HAL

44:40 over time family trees mix like you have 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great grandparents, 16 great great grandparents and so on pick anyone who lived 1000 years ago and had several children and almost everyone living today will be descended from them to some varying degree

HAL

43:30 you watched ymir and eren arming doesn't know yet

HAL

42:30 I'm not usre if its better phrased in other translations but the global laliance is basically a military fleet that is assembled from aroudn the world but its not the world, its just a fleet just like UN headquaters is smaller than earth

HAL

40:30 they were in shiganshina so this is the outermost wall, erens basically at the exact location where bertholt kicked in the door in episode 1

HAL

How I perceived Ymir's choice is that she's like a domestic abuse victim. She's paralyzed by fear and loyalty. Eren is telling that he will do what she truly wants, put an end to all of this suffering and free her from the royal's bloodline grip. Eren is basically giving her a second choice when she had only one (follow the king's will). It like an abuse victim hiring a hitman to kill their abuser. He's telling her: you don't have anything to do other than trust him, he will do the rest. She's been offered a second choice for once in 2000 years since she can ONLY interact with the founder and now Eren has infiltrated the Path without being of royal descent.

17:00 Kruger siad "some think its the devil, some think its god, some think itsj sut the source of all living matter" and we know timetravel is a thing but thats just speculating

HAL

5:10 you'd also be making a paradox because now people in the future who invent tiem machiens won't think of going back in time to kill a random baby you'd have to at the very least leave a note to yourself somehow but of course the question is wether your future self will kill a random baby because a note from a timetraveler said you should

HAL

omg yes!

daragh faro

Right of the bet, you talk about how a Timeline branch is never written well. Watch Steins Gate. That is all i'm going to say.

Marc Schuster

The title of the first episode of the show is a parallel to this episode's title. 1st Episode: To You, in 2000 Years This 80th Episode: From You, 2000 Years Ago So basically when Eren touched Ymir, he received all the memories of Ymir. Which allowed for Eren to fulfill the wish Ymir made 2000 years ago.

skitalks

The small scale Rumbling was for crushing the Global Alliance's Military specifically, not killing civilians in the process. That's why Armin isn't as vocally opposed to the idea, because while he does want to avoid pointless deaths, the island is in a situation where it has to make a choice to survive. So once he realizes the other walls are falling as well, he starts to realize Eren has something else in mind. With how much information has been thrown at you this season, it's very understandable to get a bit lost between what is happening

Tricky

Maybe edit out that bit in quotes at the end, as that's only revealed in the final episode. SWS is generally pretty spoiler averse and it may affect his theorizing. But you're right about Ymir. It explains how 2000 years can go by, while still needing to spend additional time to build all titans, while also happening in a split second.

Erjon Sejdijaj

+ 1 another detail, when Zeke commanded Ymir to stop reproduce she started to walk to the tree where "every eldian is connected", the way she can reach everyone or how Eren was able to talk to everyone

puremetalcore

I speculate since time is both infinite and instant in the paths Ymir is kind of trapped in the moment she made contact with "the source of all life" and experiences all of the consequences of that at once and also for eternity (I think this is why she appears as the child in the tattered frock instead of her older self.) This time fuckery is I think supposed to explain why she served the first king's bloodline for over 2000 years in a slave-like state, because she didn't, she just served them for an instant extended for eternity (I guess?). More speculation: I think the time fuckery is also the explanation behind the "curse of Ymir". It isn't a curse at all in the classic sense, it's that she lived 13 years between when she got the power and died, and all the other titan shifters are essentially living those 13 years with her connected through the paths. They die because she dies and can't sustain them anymore (I feel like the paths are a sort of metaphorical representation of a five dimensional reality such that it can be comprehended by human minds, but that's a whole other discussion/speculation). Also not important to the plot and you'll probably be told a million times that the "source of all life" creature in the water is actually very similar to one of the oldest primordial creatures in evolutionary biology called a Hallucigenia.

Anna Kyruin

It's basically Kiyomi's suggested Plan

Zer0

There's still a lot of story left, so don't kick yourself for not getting everything. It'll make sense in the end. As for why everyone is connected to Ymir, you missed a detail in the big tree I think. When Ymir first appears in the paths, the giant tree has three branches; one for each of her children. Then, the next time it appears, it has a couple dozen, seemingly a few generations down the line. The third time it is basically a full tree with an uncountable amount branches. Point is, this is visual storytelling meant to convey that she is connected to everyone directly in her lineage. So the eldians of today are just those that can trace their lineage directly back to the founder. Also a bit sad you missed the episode title, as it's a direct callback to episode one. There it's "to you, in 2000 years" and here it become "from you, 2000 years ago." I'll let you come to your own conclusions on what that means, but if anything it proves how much Isayama had planned this story in advance. Everything was always building towards this.

Erjon Sejdijaj

I love how when I'm watching something through someone else's eyes they can catch things I didn't catch in all my previous watches of the episode. Obviously I can't say what exactly because potential spoilers but it's really interesting stuff. :)

Anna Kyruin

The small scale Rumbling plan that Armin is referring to was the idea to use only a portion of it to destroy an invading allied military force and to intimidate the world all in one, which wouldn't require millions of colossal titans to do. Also, three children can make a huge number of descendants given nearly 2,000 years and possibly forced breeding.

SquidofSquid

It was stated that without a will to live a titan holder can not regenerate. My guess is she was done and didn't have a will to live and that's why the spear killed her.

daragh faro

There's still a lot of unanswered stuff so you didn't really miss anything and your analysis were definitely not dumb lol

Nikola Spasic

Obligatory comment about the title of the episode being a juxtaposition to the title of the first episode.

Don Pham

Zeke’s plan sounds great by comparison 😂

BL

Thank you for pointing out that Ymir was a slave to Eldians 🙏 some people just ignore it and keep telling that Eldians are good

puremetalcore

17:00 I think it's like parasite

puremetalcore

It was mushroom 🍄

puremetalcore

Nevermind you already answered 😆

puremetalcore

"memories which suited you" Zeke think if Eren show what is going to do to Father and that Clara maybe already dead, he would not fight Reiss to save Clara etc
