About defining good and evil. I can see why you would say that saying God defines what is 'good' is dangerous, but isn't the inverse dangerous too? Our personal definitions of good skew too easily in our own favor...? I think when we say that God defines what is 'good', we're wanting to point to some objective moral center to our universe. Otherwise, 'good' is what? What is good for me? Or what is good for my community? Or, if you're philosophically oriented enough, what is good for humans generally. (utilitarianly?) But I think most of our intuition about morality doesn't really lean this way. We feel ends don't justify the means. We feel we should be able to hold each other mutually accountable to something. We have a feeling about some kind of cosmic justice that ought to catch those who get away with evil. (Is this commonly true, or is this just my own environment I grew up in? If others have different intuitions, I'm genuinely curious.) Either way, I think you're absolutely right that it requires us to have wisdom and discernment. I think even if you accept something like the Bible as containing God's wisdom, it's not like it's a guidebook for every moral decision you will face in life. There are principles, but applying principles to complex real life situations...there's a lifelong practice of humility and learning waiting there...

On rewatch I now notice that "weak people are easy to control" is followed up almost immediately by someone who by viking standards is pretty weak - a captured englishman being tortured by them - and by all means the weak person *wins* against them. Definitely points back to one of the overarching themes of the show going back to Thors that the strongest person isnt the one who's able to kill people the best.
