Yelena’s face is almost exactly the same in the manga. The anime does a very good job of transferring Isayama’s work into color. The meaning is still up for interpretation but I think it’s because she realizes Armin is not truly aligned with her ideology

2024-05-22 22:56:37 +0000 UTCYou pointed out the birdcages in this episode, but one thing I think you missed was that they were all opened. It's not just that they're being caged by their ideals and teachings, but that in that moment of maturity, they were able to let that all go and free themselves from the cage. They were no longer beholden and finally found their own way. It's these scenes which make me love this series so much man, on top of the top tier character writing, you also get the visual storytelling to really bring it home. Also, I remembered as I was typing this, these cages weren't in the manga. It was a conscious choice by the director, made to illustrate the point of the character. Lastly, on Eren, a small thing I want to point out is that him wanting to exterminate everyone on the other side of the sea is not that different to him wanting to exterminate the titans. The ending of season three is purposefully made to recall the episode two scene on the boat. Eren's core motivation, the thing which defines his character from the very start, is his drive for freedom. In seasons one through three, it were the titans which took his freedom from him. Now, it's the marleyans. I don't think it's *that* big of a leap for him to make. Killing people is obviously way worse than killing whatever lovecraftian beings titans are, but from a character perspective they're very similar.

Cried my eyes out bc i loved the words you found in the Gabi/Nile and after that Gabi in the Birdcage scene. Many people even to this pooint and even after this ep hate gabi and wish her death and wish eren to succeed. Eren got voted the best Protagonist AND the best Antagonist in the years these seasons of Aot dropped. So he was worldwide the most respected mc, but many people forget how gabi is just the direct reflection of eren but in a situation where shes capable of making better decisions. Gabi is a reflection of how humanity evolving through setting right priorities. In prioritizing the children in their development. I always said Gabi is content for Histoy-Lessons in school or something. Aot anyway. Such as Shindlers List or other influencial pieces. Isayama really does care to 100% fulfill the plot he made up even if its a little sideplot such as niles it's insane how rewarding every little plot is.

Based on Armin’s words in that moment, she realized him crying in the jail cell earlier and claiming her cause was noble was all a bs act. Also, Reiner isn’t being stupid; don’t forget, Magath’s orders are to retake the Founding Titan, thus a Warrior needs to eat it. That’s why he’s been aiming at Eren’s Titan head, so he loses motor function but doesn’t die, instead of aiming for his nape. Lastly, I agree that Gabi’s character writing is insanely impressive.

2024-05-21 17:00:13 +0000 UTCAt the beginning I suspect Reiner didn't kill him because he doesn't want the founding titan to end up with another random Eldian victim. He seems like the type that would want to take that burden on himself rather than pass it on to an unborn child. He has been ordered not to kill Eren (same as Pieck) however I feel like Reiner would have disobeyed that order here if not for the innocent victim it would create.

2024-05-21 16:10:43 +0000 UTCThe horrifying expression from Yelena was because Armin said “we don’t have a choice”— showing he WASN’T the true believer he was pretending to be, just compromising. (Also Reiner and the Marley squad aren’t destroying Eren’s nape because they’re still trying to eat him and obtain the founding Titan instead of having it born to a random infant, most likely ON Paradis.)
