ALSO an interesting musical motif usage here - the music playing at the end when Eren is revealed is the same music that played when Reiner and Bertholdt were revealed to be titans. Eren has taken over the music. Now he's the invading titan.

I'm pretty sure they are basically just border patrol, they make sure no one comes in or goes out of that gate who shouldn't be. I don't think their job is similar to like what the Owl did or anything too involved with the darker stuff the government does.

2024-04-23 17:37:49 +0000 UTCWoke Willie Tybur is 100% an Eldian. He, and his family, are 100% descendents from the Eldian nobles who rebelled against King Fritz. And yes they are controlling Marley from the shadows. In fact, one could argue that Marley is a vassal state of the Eldian nobles. In exchange for this agreement one could assume they gave the Marleyans full control over the Eldian population on the mainland. So everything being done to the average Eldian, by the Marleyans, is occurring as a fact of this agreement and with the knowledge of the Eldian nobles on the mainland. Of which this is why AOT has nothing to do with WW2 and the painter guy. P.S. Google up "Map of AOT" and then flip it up side down.

2024-04-23 17:27:00 +0000 UTCI think you got it in the end, but Willy is referred to as the kin of saviour because his ancestor - this helos fellow - is implied to have had a crucial role in ending the titan war just over 100 years ago. So if Helos is the saviour, and Willy is his descendant, that makes him the kin of the saviour.

2024-04-23 13:30:07 +0000 UTCClarifying what Udo said about foreign internment camps: Marley uses titans (and therefore Eldians) as their primary weapon of subjugation of all other nations, and so in other countries which do not have the ability to turn them into titans or use them as warriors they are despised even more. Most likely Udo's family was from one of those nations and my assumption is that the nation they were from was subjugated by Marley and his family moved to the Marleyan internment camp in Liberio. Udo has a unique perspective compared to the others because he's the only one who has seen how Eldians would be treated if their utility as warriors is taken away, essentially he can see what their future looks like if military hardware outpaces the usefulness of titan weapons.

2024-04-23 13:21:18 +0000 UTCA quick clarification, if you look back at Magath’s words near the beginning, Marley doesn’t just use Eldian conscripts to fight its wars but also it’s “conquered armies”, ie. the people and militaries of the other nations it’s subjugated, even if Eldians are still put in front for the most dangerous and disposable roles. That’s a big part of why even if there are Marleyan officers and volunteers, the Marleyan people probably wouldn’t concern themselves as much with war casualty numbers. And also clarifies the extent of the anger the other nations’ leaders felt towards that boorish drunk Marleyan official’s callous words at the party. Still, their continued reverence for the Tybur family for helping end the Eldian Empire despite Marley’s colonial misuse of their nations means things under the Eldian Empire may have been even MORE horrifying.
