2024-04-05 10:59:12 +0000 UTCGreat reaction, two small points: It was actually possible to carry viking ships, they were made of lighter wood and tended to float much closer on the surface compared to later ships which are partially submerged. The show is a little exaggerated though, they probably needed double the number of men shown to carry ships of that size, and much less so run at that speed. The fat lord a reference to Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars. Hence his rather over exaggerated mouth with a gnarly tongue. Like others said, this was this first chapter of the manga instead of the anime format, so it was possible Yukimura (the author) drew it at a time when he was still figuring out the (art) style of the manga. The art style and direction we see in the anime now is more similar to the designs from at least 35-40 chapters in, instead of what we had seen during the manga debut. At the time, Vinland saga also transitioned from a weekly release into a monthly release one, so Yukimura had more time to work on both the art, story and research.

So for the manga readers this was our introduction to all the characters. The anime took the librety of retelling the story in chronological order. This obviously lead to a much slower start, but I think it made the story way more effective

2024-04-04 21:04:05 +0000 UTCAskeladd definitely seems to be someone who's used to hiding what he really thinks; perhaps as a sort of method of saving face in front of his crew, like the time he told Thors "maybe you should be our leader" and then took it back as a "joke". He's always saying things like "oh Thorfinn is just a kid. Who cares if he dies" but Askeladd's actions definitely imply he actually really trusts Thorfinn and believes him capable of things the rest of the crew can't do.
