Attack on Titan 1x18

Hope to get to 1x20 (edit: of course 3x20) by the end of this week! =) Internet currently relatively stable, but my pc might have a problem with a RAM stick. I guess Murphy's Law is not there for no reason :D

Yeah, I think the only purposeful and meaningful eye color change is Erens getting green when using titan powers in s4.

Phthalo

32:50 a lot of people read that moment as erwin being at peace becaues he remembers his childhood and levi doesn't want to force him back into war I'm not sure about that but he did decide to give up his dream and die along with the recruits when he charged

HAL

26:50 don't want him to randomly eat someone else too while hes at it they're already wounded and out of combat, if they're careless and unlucky he could theoretically just eat half of htem before he happens to get to bertholt

HAL

23:00 I mean this time it was a good shot but in the end Zeke did get away and Floch is the only survivor of a suicide charge the results of whih got snapped away because of a moment of hesitation, spiraling into an existential crisis and wanting to bringmeaning into that charge at all cost is kindof understandable at that point also he looks a bit like der kleine maulwurf der wissen wollte wer ihm auf den kopf gemacht hat

HAL

13:30 well turns out if either eats bertholt they'd both probably live 13 years

HAL

also, as far as philosophical discussions go dying is a rather long and complex process we tend to consider people dead when we know our medicine will not be able to save them anymore but with other medicine/other means that line can shift like our definition of death has already changed from heartbeat to braindeath as medical technology advanced and now we've seen that as far as titans regenerative abilities/death goes that line is different, not just shifted in one direction but complicated like you can recover from usually completely unrecovarable injuries as longas you have some neural activity because thats how titan stuff works but getting cut through the spine can kill you even though people with spinal injuries can survive with the right medical technology it's like none of the magic systems in this show are based on our words and how we use them they just work based on some inner logic and our words sometimes sortof partially line up with concepts relevant to it

HAL

bertholt dying here kinda adds to how crazy the show feels like he's the colossal titan THE big bad evil guy from teh very first scene whos on every season 1 poster who got memed to death, the icon of the show, the big villain eren has a vendetta against, the one we assumed to be the magical big final boss in the beginning and now he just died turned out he was just some guy forced to fight in a war who appeared really scary to us cause we didn't understand waht was going on basically a child soldier we killed the final boss but its no great victory cause the world turned out to be so much more complicated

HAL

I think Hange and Levi initially going for Erwin makes sense. After all, they have been fighting alongside him for many years, while Armin is someone they have only known for a few months. Also, the flashing eyes on the titans is just an anime thing to make it look cooler for the audience. It is not supposed to really be there.

Krul

Armin was the one with curiosity and fasciantion for hte otuside world in general, beyond jsut the question wether or not humans still live there and a desire to fight until you find out

HAL

Theyd both need to consume his spinal fluid. I imagine whoever actually ingests it first gets it

I'm still curious what would have happened if they took Armin and Erwin and put them in different areas, cut Berthold's body in half and then injected each of them with half the syringe.

This again is one of the best rated TV-Episodes of all time :D I think it has quite oscarpotential. It's the first attack on titan episode where you hear no music. From the moment Armin died last episode((to TkT Soundtrack Main chords); to the moment Armin was reborn(to TkT Soundtrack Main chords) , the episode was paced through well dosed parts of extreme eerie voice acting(erens VA literally had seizures after the recording) combined with well dosed moments of silence. The whole tone of this Episode concludes perfectly what terrifying thing has just happend and marks the last eternal plotpoint for the scouts.

I wanted to copypaste this comment I also left on another reaction to this episode. Isayama (the writer of Attack on Titan) said in an interview: "People tend to say, 'True happiness is when you don’t fulfill your dream.' This indicates that for a person, 'continuing the pursuit of a dream even during the last seconds' is the best kind of life. I kept thinking about this notion as I drew Erwin’s final moments." This combined with Kenny’s quote “Everyone has to be drunk on something” tells us why Erwin died and not Armin. Erwin’s dream was to find out what’s in the basement, that’s what he’s “drunk on”. What happens after he gets there? His dream is gone, fulfilled. Nothing to be “drunk on” anymore, nothing to drive him. Armin’s dream, however, is driven by curiosity. Even after he finds the sea, he’ll still be curious about other things. He’ll still be “drunk on” his curiosity and he’ll keep driving forward, where Erwin may have lost his motivation. The adage which Isayama describes is the final part of Levi’s decision. Erwin’s entire life was driven by his dream. He died fighting for it. Bringing him back would enter him into the same hell, but without a dream to fight for. Hence why it was time to finally let him rest.

Lmao at 3:41 Zeke: "Eren! Someday, I'm coming back to rescue you!." *Malti abruptly pauses the video* *Malti dramatically pauses himself* "...what?" and his whole rant about how he thinks Zeke meant what he said and how that could be conflicting. haha, can't wait for more!

Russell Gambardella

To expand on that. Moblit x Hange is a ship that I think is very under-rated. Moblit Burner has been at their side practically every time we see them, he was the calm and practical brakes on the runaway train of their unrestrained curiosity. I always wished we got more of them together, but I think we got plenty enough fodder for the fanfic community XD. I see people shipping Hange with Levi but I just can't see that compared to Moblit.

"but my pc might have a problem with a RAM stick" ... Just download more RAM. Problem solved. 😜

Drift3r

just a little far ahead heads up - I'm not sure how the page you watch on displays parts ofseasons, season 4 part 1 has 16 episodes, part 2 12 and then you go into the finale movies - the op for part 1 is pretty trippy but the one for part 2 is quite spoilery so I just wanted to warn you ahead a bit

HAL

3x20 & 3x21 are the episodes I look forward to most when people get to season 3. I CANNOT wait to hear your thoughts, but I will have to wait 😭 On the Subject of why Levi & Hange fought to revive Erwin : They are just human too , & deep down, Erwin was their friend & symbol of hope. The same way Armin is Mikasa’s & Eren’s. Them being the superior officers notwithstanding, I think it’s clear everyone’s emotions are running insanely high at this point.

Paris Hardy

I think most people would react the same when they find out they are about to get eaten. It shows that Bertholdt is just an ordinary guy like you and me who got forced into doing this

pg.0314

We saw Levi remembering Kenny's words about everybody have to be "drunk on". Erwin's pursuit of the basement was his driving force, his obsession. But what happens when that dream is fulfilled? It may leaves him with nothing to strive for, unlike Armin, whose curiosity fuels his dreams. While Eren seeks vengeance, Armin's genuine desire to explore the world keeps him moving forward. Even after discovering the sea, Armin's thirst for knowledge will persist, unlike Erwin, who may have lost his motivation after achieving his dream — reaching the basement. Erwin's life revolved around his dream, and he died fighting for it. Bringing him back probably would only subject him to the same torment, as Floch said, without a purpose to fight for. So, may be this is was in Levi's mind. Also, the moment when Berthold faces his imminent death is heart-wrenching. Initially afraid, he finds solace in seeing his ex-friends, but reality sets in, and he screams for help. The emotion portrayed in his facial expressions and voice acting is truly moving. Thank you for reaction!

Aidos Smagulov

This is such a nightmare choice but like you said there really was no other choice. Erwin's dream was to learn what we already knew but was taken from us, and Armin's dream is to learn new things. Erwin's dream could only take us exactly to the point where we actually find out the truth, but Armin is needed to be able to go from there.

FullHeart

I love how Bertholdt went from just a couple episodes ago saying that he thought he now had the "courage" to "accept whatever happens" even if he loses, to, when it came down to it, BEGGING the former soldiers he betrayed for help when he was about to be eaten. He really was just the self-justifying bystander soldier exactly as you said, and that last line reveals the inherent cowardice at the core of his stance.

BlastYoBoots

You mean 3x18 I assume. Edit: Nice video. Been looking forward to your thoughts about this episode.
