33:48 it needs to get into the spine though - might be aprt of why he ended up this way

I think theres a hypothetical solution to the fermi paradoxon where sufficiently advanced intelligences eventually have some philosophical/metaphysical insight that makes them all kill themselves for some completely rational reason we can't understand yet essentially making intelligence a timebomb then again, most religions tend to justify things with some greater plan we cannot perceive or udnerstand yet this world is not built to be easily understood before you have every piece

he doesn't know for sure and he doesn't know precisely when the chapel incident happened, during episode 1 his dad would still have been on the way but basically he thinks frieda could have controlled the titans and solved most of hteir problems and changed how everything turned out as soon as she would hear about the outer wall being broken of course he didn't know everyone who died since directly but those are basically the people who died since and who he either saw die or knew personally and who died in part because frieda wasn't around to solve all their problems by just telling all titans to chill at least thats how he seems to be thinking its hard to tell for sure and he's not allknowing either

Nice catch in regards to not taking all of Rod's words at face value, especially when you instantly wondered why they didn't eliminate all the titans in the past 100 years. It must have been rewarding to see Historia pose that exact question moments later :). I completely agree with this episode being masterfully written and planned. As far as Eren's, "I shouldn't have happened," I think everything you gathered from that during your discussion (from the perspective of after Eren became a titan) was accurate; the only missing piece is that Eren is also referring to his assumptions of what could have been if his father had never stole the Founding Titan from Frieda. Eren is under the impression that Frieda could have saved everyone once they became aware of the attack on wall Maria. Two other things I think contribute to those words - The first is Eren's sense of powerlessness (ex: squad Levi, Hannes, etc.) despite possessing titan power, Anna already nicely phrased it as a "self hatred of a kind." The second is Eren having potential access to his father's memories in which he may be experiencing a secondhand responsibility for what happened to Frieda and the Reiss family. The idea of mixing the truth into a lie to make it more believable is explicitly (and also in-explicitly) revisited later on in the series, which I think you'll enjoy :). As always great reaction and analysis, can't wait for more!

I can only agree with you. Historia 's arc and this scene is truly one of the highlights of the series. It's so well written and directed that it's just powerfull.

Nameless

Agreed🤝

Historia's arc and this moment where she smashes the vial are one of the highlights for the whole series for me. If you re-read her words after that point you can tell she is switching from treating Christa as her role model that she wants to be like to treating Ymir as the role model she wants to be like. "The worst girl who ever lived". In the end for me it is a rejection of empty virtue and the acknowledgement that you are yourself valuable and selfishness is a necessary part of self actualization which is the core of true virtue.

~23:00 I think Eren's "I shouldn't have happened" and all the regretful deaths he lists are from the standpoint of, if his father hadn't stolen the power Freida could have retaliated against the colossal and armored titans with her abilities and stopped the attack there. His mother would have still been dead, but all the other deaths would have been prevented. And he would not have eaten his father as well. In a sense all this death and destruction is the path to him having these titan powers within him and this has turned to self hatred of a kind.
