There's most definitely a gripping story behind this that I'm looking forward to being revealed when it's finished. :D *btw it's long since occurred to me that all of the Whisperers' sexual orientations ensure that none of them can ever be love interests with each other, a writing decision that I believe has a 76% probability of being intentional ;P
