RJ - Reference Sheet 2025

Ruben Jason.

He likes having something to do.

He works for the WornDown Children as their roadie.

He’s stoic and serene.

He has never really stopped to think who he is. He just does it.

He’s pretty good at fixing almost everything but cars. Those perflex him.

He originally picked the electrician/mechanic profesión from his father.

He’s a pacifist. (Spoiler for a possible comic I may do eventually but to be fair I'm not completely sure) When he was young he was bullied by the other kids from his school until he sent one of them to the hospital and then from that to a new school. Since then he was feared and that didn't help him make friends.

While not the only one, he was in an on and off relationship from highschool to his early twenties with a juvenile delinquent named Laura who got interested in him for his bad boy reputation. They broke up for good when she joined a biker gang.

Years later he would meet the band “The WornDown Children”whom he would end up working with and befriending. He's currently “Secretly” dating the lead Singer Zara.

You see how he fits incredibly well in this format I’ve made for these? It's because I made for all characters to fit on their real scale so I had to make it so RJ fits as he is the big boy of the group.

Actually the same thing happens in the Whisperers ones. So next week if you're wondering why Lil looks so tiny on her own ref, there's your answer! 

This one was really fun to do because, as in the old set of ref I was going for a more cartoony feel, RJ got the more cartoony body type. Even more than Talk with both of them being bears and all that.

But now I've finally made oficial the body type you have seen me working on in real time for RJ. He's a bear, so he's obviously rotund, but he's also pretty tall. My second tallest OC actually, not counting the supernatural ones. I've always thought of RJ, shape language wise, as a square with very round corners.

Thus this is the one character that has changed the most since it’s original Ref.

Another thing I like here is that here you can actually see his bear Tail. It’s usually hard to see and I’ve even had people ask me if he has one. Once or twice.

A thing I did not include in the short biography kind thing at the beginning of the post, is about his age difference with the rest of the band. 

That's because I like to keep those kind of details vague but most of the band is somewhere on their early to mid 20s and RJ is between 3 and 5 older (God I love vagueness) I like to think it was fate for these 6 to be friends, but sadly RJ got here early and had to wait more for it. So there's a bit of an existential tragedy for you. 

Truly a bear out of time. But luckily not anymore. 

One of the things I liked and disliked on this ref is the drawing of him working on the console and getting a broken smoke machine to work Flintstones style with a kick. That's the sign of a good mechanic honestly. 

The thing I dislike about it is that I feel now that I should keep that idea to make it a bigger more detailed drawing later. Maybe for one of those Live series pictures. I may do it later anyway but still.

Here's a final kind of fun detail if you're from an English speaking country or something similar. The Jason on RJ’s full name. You probably hear that in your head as “Jay-sn” the English pronunciation but in mine I always hear the Spanish one “Ha-són”. Also the same with Diana.

Neither is wrong honestly, that's why I gave most of my characters bilingual names and I like to imagine the English and Spanish dub change the pronunciations from each other lol. Besides, everyone calls him RJ anyway. 

 But is it “R-Jay” or is it “Erre-Ho-tah”?
