And you call that a roast?! This is a Roast!! This...! What I am doing right now to you!! I wasn't sure if it was clear...
Or.
"And you call that a roast?! This is a Roast!! This...! What I am doing right now to your cooking skills!!... I wasn't sure if it was clear...
Still, thank you for the food..."
Nah...
Edit: Fixed the lighting around the car.
Added a super old link I found
Well, even if he's not going to eat them, vegetarian and all of that, what should Tony have done? After he noticed that Diana had let the sausages get burned on one side, was he supposed to let that go unmentioned? Of course he was going to make a joke. And of course she was going to reply.
Just a bit of playful teasing between friends.
Another thing is that I have been thinking about this for a long time and I’ve come to the realization that Diana is probably the best cook in the band. In an spectrum of “This cereal is burnt” to “not bad I guess”, Diana ranks the highest. Her mom taught her some stuff and she even worked at a restaurant once.
Davo is probably the lowest.
TW: Double meaning jokes or "Albures"
Not definitive but maybe a thing he could have been saying is something about how Diana’s sexual preference may have something to do with her mishandling the sausages. To which she responded pointing out that he seems to be quite knowledgeable on the topic, he must spend a lot of time... Grilling. For me it works better in Spanish I think, In mexico "Albures" are more commonplace.
Se llevan pesadito.
I’m not gonna get into details yet but I've suggested once before that Tony and Diana have a sort of banter and conection and I think it is because they know what they are *.
Also Tak wasn't originally going to be here but when I decided that Tony would be making a joke, I knew she had to be there laughing out loud. And look at him, he's so happy right now.
I wasn't originally planning to make another “Beach Episode” this year but this one came up as a sort of Tie-in to a comic I came up with and will try to squeeze between commissions. The story, small as it is, is sort of based on a legal theory I had once and that I'm sure it's wrong.
There's also a second twin piece to this one in the works because my first attempt at this didn't convince me then this one did but the first one was actually pretty good too so I'm finishing as well but different.
I had mentioned before in some pieces that I had been experimenting with some new coloring techniques, and before I'm sure It may have sounded silly because those works didn't really look that different from my regular work but I think those new tricks are really more visible here. The colors look more alive but it doesn't look like plastic either.
I was thinking of opening Commissions last week but I had to postpone it until the last second. And you're seeing a small part of the reason why. Not the main one of course (That one would be my boss). But I really wanted to finish this piece before working on commissions and it took me a bit more than anticipated because someone messed up at work and I had to do a bit of extra hours this week. (Boo, work, boo! 👎) Which meant I had less time to work on this. But here it is! Finally!
The inspirations for these pieces are: a composition that somehow was beamed directly into my brain out of nowhere. I wanted to try something with a perspective like this one.
One time a friend of mine was telling us about his cooking skills and we all started joking about it. (He said it in a really funny way)
And a trip to the beach I took with my family right before COVID. We stayed at a hotel (kind of cheap) that had a really big empty garden and that allowed you to camp there instead of renting a room if you wanted. So I feel they're at a similar place that also includes grills. There's a park in my town with pavilions that have a grill built in them and I think that's pretty cool. So I guess it's something like this.
See, I was feeling nostalgic. It had been a bit of a while since I had worked in a really big piece like this. I even did 3 alt versions, I like to do that often and post the different ones on different sites besides this one. I’m considering leaving the Swimsuits one as a patreon exclusive though that one was supposed to be the main one, I wanted it to feel like they just got out of the water.
I really like to do things like these cause they let me really get lost into the details. Speaking of details…
…
Magical Mystery Tour. And some extras
There's actually a second piece hidden inside this one. On the beach I managed to integrate 5 of my more enigmatic and less documented characters. Five guys from whom 4 are the main characters of an old shonen anime style story that was developed almost entirely as cool anime openings in my head that I liked to imagine while listening to music on the bus going to college and back.
I had actually forgotten them until recently. During college I filled 3 sketchbooks. The first one mostly with art class stuff. In the third one there was a lot of experimentation with techniques and materials and I did post some of it.
The second one is just sketches I did for fun. And like half of it is this guys but I rarely posted them because they were unfinished sketches. Just stuff I did for fun.
Three of them, Sofi the dingo girl, Tem the seagull and Boh the red panda, are orphans that were “adopted” by a wizard after they showed some aptitudes for magic.
This is them post time skip after the hidden city arc (lol). Joined by the former Duke Albert (Genesis reference (Classic Katnay)) the son of a former nobleman that ran away from his title to learn magic, and because he had a huge crush on the Dingo. And Jun, she is the reincarnation of the Phoenix, a deity in their world. But she escaped the temple and is having adventures.
Funny thing is that this guys know magic so it is probably actually them and not a version of them for this universe. They could very well have come here through a portal, or something, know knows? Freaky stuff happens in this world as well. It doesn't even matter, it surely is a filler episode for them anyway. A beach episode.
Another fun fact at least for me is that I came up with a magic system for their world that only now that I'm watching 2011’s Hunter X Hunter on Netflix I'm realizing it works pretty much like Nen. Just way more simple. So next time I see someone watching HxH I could go up to them and say “I came up with that” and leave…
And then a third one where I decided to get experimental. I used different techniques and materials and I posted a lot of stuff I had made there. But for some reason I decided to stop right when I was getting to the good stuff. But that's a story for another day.
Some other extras I drew and I liked so I saved separately before shrinking them are
Jorge and Lu, both goats, 35 and 5. Jorge and Lu's mother's marriage is not at a great spot right now. So they're taking a vacation to see if it helps. And right now it's still a coin flip but they're having fun. She is taking a sunbath while Jorge is taking his daughter Lu on a trip on his shoulder so she can see the whole beach. This is a moment when he feels everything will be alright.
Mike the saint Bernard and Adrianne the doe. 42 and 39. They are on their first vacation since Adrianne came out as trans 2 years ago. She's getting used to her new self and he is getting used to technically being straight now kinda.
Hank the monkey and “Economic” the monitor lizard, 28 and 29. I mainly did this one to establish that there are monkeys in this world. I rarely draw them but they exist. There two are a comical couple of terrible scam artists and crooks who are right now involved in the beginning of a Kangaroo Jack type adventure. And the Kangaroo can actually talk and rap this time. Tho that isn't weird in this world.
Bella the meerkat, her girlfriend Selena the maned wolf and Jacob the cat. Friends from college. They sadly missed on spring break due to a medical emergency (It all went fine) and now, a couple of years later, they're here to compensate. They're laughing cause they pranked him into wearing a speedo or something.
And lastly on a sadder note, one I couldn't save before shrinking are Jonas the horse and Linda the macaw. 79 and 74. One of them has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and they decided to travel as long as they can.
