The Beast of Pirates Bay - Animatic

That's Den for you. He's a conman and a bit of a mythomaniac. He's cool otherwise. Just don't believe what he's singing about. He's making it all up. A lot of it on the spot.

Basically I wanted to try out storyboard pro and saw myself with a temporary test. Pretty good btw, but expensive 😔. So I decided to make a scene I've had in my mind for a while now. The scene in my mind would actually have been the full song but there will be time for that later.

This happens in the Cartographer universe but it's not canon to it. This song and scene just made up for this. A long time ago I was listening to this song, "The Beast of Pirate's bay by Voltaire" and realized it captured perfectly the energy I always imagined for the character. I sketched an expression sheet for it and a couple of weeks ago I finally gave myself the time to actually do it.

So, not to be over explainy with my OCS but I guess this would be an AU where Den managed to get the hold of a tavern called the beast where he can throw parties and tell lies to different sailors every night.

Which would be a sweet end for him but unfortunately the original version of him can't give himself that luxury as he's a wanted man. He lives in a region that's currently occupied by an outsider military force. And it just happens that he's looked by both the local and foreign authorities.

He's a shark. Deep inside he's a really sad man but he doesn't have time to think about that. He has to keep moving. And having to constantly escape just gives him more reason to do so. And while he kept moving he got to know two young reptiles with whom he got along well.

So he, Khun and Aki go around the world having adventures, maybe making a little con here and there. Den and Aki are basically the devil and the angel over Khun's shoulders.

His original musical theme. Following the logic of Khun's "Vagabundear" is another Joan Manuel Serrat song from the same album called "Tío Alberto". Not so much for the lyrics but the music. It's a sad waltz that reflects who he really is deep down. Even if he tries to hide it by singing songs about made up whales and pirates.

Lastly, this scene would represent an alternative version of Khun and Aki meeting him for the first time. Thus the way they react to him here. I guess in this version they are looking for him for some reason.
