The original project was created around Jan. 2016, while this remake was made around July 2016. Barely 6 months later, and I'll let you see for yourself just how much I had improved (on a technical level at least) within that time span.
Looking back, I think all of my remakes have been disappointments, imo. Even if most of them are better on a technical level, they just don't quite capture what made the original so great, and this one's no different. A lot of people loved this project when I posted it on Tumblr back in the day. I'm sure a lot of people still love it today. But I'm not fully satisfied with this one, or any of my other remakes. Not going to lie, just being brutally honest.
The "milk" ruins things. It just doesn't look right. This was back when I was still using physical objects within my scenes to simulate "milk" instead of drawing it in by hand, and the results are extremely mixed. Unfortunately, this was also back when I didn't think of creating alternative shots without the bodily fluids, just in case if people hated seeing them.
The lighting is overexposed and too much. The original is a bit too dark, but I think I definitely should've erred on the side of darker and moodier. There was a lot of ambiance that was lost, imo.
I can continue nitpicking but you can already see where this is going. I just don't really like this remake. I don't think it's "bad", just disappointing.
But hey there's a chubby goat at least. And I did render out a version for each body type. He still looks pretty decent, not much to talk about there.
Unlike the original, there actually was a story for this project that was written by a fan. I don't have a copy of it anymore. I could possibly find it if I really dug around, but nah I won't. I remember the gist of it though: our goat is horny after peeping on a bunch of fellow garrison guards, retires to his room and is ambushed by these two Orcs who have somehow slipped through while all the other guards were doing each other.
Would I remake this again? Yes I would actually. The original project was my "first", so it'll always be special to me. But since I seem to hate all of my remakes, I think I would consider a reimagining instead of a new remake. Then again, 3rd time could be the charm, and I seriously want to fix a lot of faults I have with this shoddy remake.
