"Pastorela Undercover: A Whodunit Mystery"
Or
"The Whisperers infiltrate a community theater Christmas play and have a fight with the devil."
I started with the Spanish version because I came up with this in Spanish and it just sounds funnier that way in my head. I'm still not sure how I will be posting this elsewhere tho.
Came up with this idea at the market a couple weeks ago seeing how they were already selling devil costumes for the pastorelas and thought it would be funny for the devil to use one of those as a disguise trying to blend in on stage and Nicole discovering him.
I wasn't completely sure about this one since, from what I understand, Christmas plays are different outside of México, but I kept thinking about it and went "Oh what the hell".
At first it was just to be them pointing at the stage but I thought it would be fun to draw Nicole and the gang with costumes so I did it, Nicole as the Angel which is funny I think because in these plays it is the angel who ends up outsmarting the devil's outsmarting. Ignacio as one of the wise men and then with Veronica I wanted to have her as the angel also as she is probably the one who would end up actually fighting the devil, but it would be too repetitive so I went with the Virgin Mary for her. Just cause.
I don't have a full story for this as usual but the vibe is something like, Nicole somehow figures that the devil is in town and has the gang joining a community theater to investigate. At some point she hears a conversation between the director and one of the devils (She can't see which one because she's behind a curtain or something) and figures it all out. Now she only has to find out which one.
One of two things would happen next. They would do the boiling blood thing from "The thing" or the devil would just come out and reveal themself and fight Veronica.
Other thing is that I don't really know who is the actual devil here. I haven't decided on porpouse.
As something fun for this piece I wanted to add some comic booky type vibes. So you may notice that Nicole's pose is inspired by Jotaro Kujo's usual pose from "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" and the second panel composition is inspired both on the X-Men Days Of Future Past's comic cover and Robin's pose on "The Dark Knight Returns" third book cover.
And lastly, I know someone will ask. Maybe not here but eventually, so here it is.
The Doll is in the back of the teather moving the light. I tried to include her but wasn't able to without adding another panel to the comic and I felt it would be too much.
Attached are the full res Versions of the panels.
